If I am good at managing my money, I save most of it for important engagements: School, lunch and personal holidays, and my parents know this. Is it right for them get angry when I spend it on fun things such as hanging out with my friends or going to the mall? P.S I also purchase my own school clothes and school materials.

as a mom if you are paying for your owe clothes and lunch at school.first of all good for you . second if you have extra money and wont to spend it on fun things to do with your friends then your parents should not be getting mad its your money and you earned it right. as long as you are being responsible with it and it sounds like you are then they should not have a reason to get mad .

If you earned it in exchange for work for an employer or your parents, then it is yours and you have the right to spend it however you like. If it is given as just a general allowance by your parents, then it is still their money (that has been entrusted to you) and they have a say in how how it is spent.

The purpose of an allowance is to give you an opportunity to learn financial responsibility (something that many adults have no clue about and gets them into serious trouble!). So it is understandable that your parents get upset when they see you spending the money on frivolous things.

Assure you parents that you are trying to spend your money wisely, but consider "fun things" to be important as well. Draw up a budget and show it to them - you earn X amount per week or month, and plan to spend Y amount on school supplies, clothes, food, and so on. Show them you are setting aside a small amount for future purchases (ie, save one dollar every week to spend on Christmas presents) and long-term goals (like a car or college). They will be very impressed and reassure with your responsible attitude, and will be more relaxed in the future.
