He already knows shapes and songs. He likes books and always brings anything with words on it so i can read it to him. Is this advanced or am i an overly excited parent??

the best way to get your answer to your question is when you bring your son into the doctor for his check up then tell them what he is doing and then ask them if he is advanced for his age.if any one will know it will be them.i know ever time my son goes for a check up they ask me if he is doing certain things and them things are things that he would do for he age but just ask.

It's too young to tell yet. As parents, we all think our kids are gifted to some degree. I don't think you can even have them tested until about four or five years old. Seems to me like there's been alot of parent involvement, if nothing else. Just keep working with him and see how things go!

Liking words and bringing you things with words on them is a good sign but it is fairly early. Just do what you can to keep his interest up and respond to him like you seem to be doing already. Sounds like he will be a smart little tyke, you will probably have your hands full.

You're an over excited parent, all children grow and develop different skills at different ages.

He does sound a bright spark. Don't force the pace though. let it stay a game. Hothousing brings a world of problems for a child.

Hard to tell. He might know shapes already, but there might be other things he doesn't know that other 1 yr. olds do. They all learn and grow at different rates so at 1 yr. old it's hard to tell.

He sounds good if he has only just turned one. What he really like is that you spend time with him, and show that you care.

Keep it up.
