I have a 1.5 yr old golden retriever that any time someone other than family pets him, sprays. Only until he gets used to the new person thought. He does not mark territory or any thing like that, simply pees out of excitement. Is there a way to teach him not to do that. I thought when he got neutered, that would help. So far we have resorted to putting him in his kennel to settle down when company is here. He is so social..........and a really well behaved dog except this one thing.

HE'S A PIDDLER!!! Some dogs do this...I have a Cockapoo that does the excitement piddle! What I do is when someone comes over, I tell them not to bend over and bend her (that's when she piddles.) Have the people ignore him until he gets used to their company and isn't so excited!!!

Submissive peeing or excitment peeing is very annoying but there is really nothing that works to sotp it. Unless you put one of those belly band things on him.
If you disipline him for it that can make it worse. Most dogs sort of outgrow it to some degree. Since he 1.5 yeras old he may not.
I would just clean up the mess and not day much about it.
I would have him meet and greet people outside to minize the mess.

I had a lab do that although she was female. Still the concept is still the same. It's called a submissive pee. The only thing that worked for me was to tell people to leave her alone when they came over. Tell them not to speak to him, touch him, or even look at him. Try to tell this to everyone before they show up and remind them when they get there. You two will work through it but it's hard. It's especially hard when company doesn't listen. good luck :)

Avoid eye contact with him until he has had a chance to calm down. When dogs do this, it is their way of saying "I know you are bigger than me, and I really like you"! It's just a form of submission. When strangers come around the dog, tell them not to look at him! It's like when YOU really like someone and you see them from across the room...then suddenly they glance in your direction, your eyes meet and don't you just wanna pee your pants? LOL
Trust me, it works! It may take a little time but eventually it will.

Hit him on the head with a news paper or throw a tin can next to him to frighten him and praise him when he doesnt spray.
Ive had a golden retriever that did that and i stopped him that way.
Ive also have a girl mutt that leaned it from him and when he stoped she stoped.

Try Depends or wrapping Bounty around and around his self.

get him a wrap.. if he pees, it'll be wet against him (and it won't go all over)...it'll make him uncomfortable eventually and he'll stop
