Xanax, Klonipan, Ativan, and Valium are all Benzodiazapine's. They are highly addictive and it presents itself in the same manner as alcohol or any illegal drug. You feel better at first, then it takes more and more of the drug to have any affect. I had lied to people about how much Klonipan I was actual taking. My psychiatrist upped my dose because it just wasn't getting the job done. I started to take just so I could nap. The amount I was taking would have put a 350lb man out for 8 hours and I was happy if I was out for 10 minutes. I got more irritable, started slurring my words, more confused and I had bowl movement in my sleep. Thank GOD I am off of that now. It was a living HELL for 2 and 1/2 weeks. If you chose to go off this med, you MUST do it under a doctors care for if you do it on your own IT WILL KILL YOU!! Alcohol withdraw is the only other that would kill you if you didn't get help doing it. I knew to many people with addictions to the Xanax and Klonipan that wound up dead by overdosing on this. And they thought they were okay the day before.

I took Xanax for years, if your looking to get high then Xanax is not the drug for you. I took it as prescribed and had no problems, then I began to have break through panic attacks, usually at night. I told my doctor about it and he switched me to Klonopin. Klonopin has a longer 1/2 life, I have been taking it ever since. If you are suffering from panic attacks there are certain things you are going to have to get use to. 1. You can't take medications like Xnanx, or Klonopin for kicks. 2. You are going to have to take responsibility for taking your medication as it is prescribed, no more taking handfuls at the time trying to get high. 3. Alcohol and medications like Xanax don't mix, so stop drinking. 4. You are lucky to live in an age where horrible illness like panic disorder can be treated, there was a time when you would have simple been lobotomized. 5. Never miss an appointment with your therapist, or Doctor. 6. If you try getting high on your medications they will be taken away from you, and you may get so sick with panic disorder that you will take your own life, believe me I've been there.

xanax, my favorite calming drug, better than muscle relaxant, valuim, is normally prescribed for panic attacks. when you become dependant on it (it is very easy to), you will want more of it than is prescribed. it will become, most likely, the best napping medicine you can find for insomnia, but in higher than normal doses. however, tho i have suffered from serious insomnia 4/5 of my life, my shrink will not prescribe xanax to me because i don't get heart palpatations, primary sign of panic attacks. tell your doc if you are beginning to neet more for same result.

Same with any drug. You crave it, have to take it, take to much, have withdrawls, make excuses for why you need it, or why you take to much. Stealing from family, using other things to replace them if they are gone, you go on a mission to find more when you are low. Mostly they control your life. I believe they actually have rehabilitation facilities for it just like any other addiction.
