Fighting for freedom is not just fighting for YOUR freedom.

We also have fought for the freedom of others (See European WWII). We also fight for security. Frankly the less Islamo-fascist governments and the more democratic or 'free' governments we have in the world, the greater chance for security and peace.

Iraq violated the cease-fire agreement settled upon at the end of hostilities from the justified action against them in the conflict commonly known as Desert Storm. Once that cease-fire was broken, finishing the job was not only justified, but an action that was logical in removing a leadership regime that was not intent on peace.

If you go back through the history of mankind, you'll see that there have always been leaders who were willing to take over other countries by force and set up governments where they were the supreme ruler. Individual rights weren't even a consideration; you did what the leader/dictator told you to do and you didn't question him or speak out against him unless you wanted to be imprisoned, tortured, or killed. We've seen many shining examples of this within the last century -- Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, just to name a few. These leaders all have many things in common, but the one common thread that is relevent to those of us on this side of the Atlantic is their predilection to conquer, dominate, and deny even basic human rights to those within their sphere of influence.

You say that Iraq has nothing to do with your freedom or lack of freedom. Really? Tell that to the families of the 2,700+ victims that died when the Twin Towers came down -- didn't they have a right to live and work and have families and pursue their happiness without fear of some extremists flying commercial airliners into the towers to kill them, for no other reason than the fact that they're Americans? Over 200 Al-Qaeda operatives have been captured or killed in Iraq to date, but the mainstream liberal media doesn't want you to hear that -- it doesn't fit their Bush-bashing agenda. They also don't want you to hear about the stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction that they found -- weapons that Saddam Hussein possessed in direct violation of the Geneva Convention and several U.N. resolutions. Since the lesson of 9/11 has obviously been lost on you, perhaps a biological weapon attack in your home town would have convinced you...

Do yourself a favor: Google Sam Harris and Head-In-The-Sand Liberals. This article, written by one of the most extreme left-wing liberals the U.S. has to offer, states in no uncertain terms that the liberals are soft on terrorism and do not at all appreciate the threat of the Islamic extremists. And here you have the conservatives saying "Well, DUH!!! We've been saying this since 9/11 but the liberals have repeatedly bashed us, called us religious fanatics and warmongers, and claim that tolerance will stop the attacks. It took this guy FIVE YEARS to figure out ol' Dubya isn't so stupid after all?!?!!"

Because it keeps the fighting of freedom loving people against authoritarian regime people in the Middle East and not in the United States.

It's people like you that have forgotten about 9/11, the attack on the USS Cole, the bombings of US Embassies overseas, Pan Am 103....the list goes on. The radical Islamics would not stop until they have killed us all or force us to give up our freedom that alas most have taken for granted.

Why fight in Iraq? Would you rather be fighting them in your backyard?

I was going to provide a scathing list of reasons way there is a connection between the fighting in in Iraq and your (and my) freedom in the US. Then I noticed who posted the question and said what the heck....just feeding you obsession!

Hello again, erudite...

Hey, didn't I see an answer from you to the guy asking SF and military vets if they have nightmares about the people they have killed in combat? Do I recall your primary MOS as K-9 handler? And then you answer to the question as having occurred in 1970? Must one heck of a story.

Well, maybe later. Keep antagonizing people! Your Q's are always......what is the right word!?

son,we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to guarded by men with guns. who's gonna do it? you? they have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom.you have the luxury of not knowing what they know.and their existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives.you don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want them on that wall, you need them on that wall. they use words like honor, code, loyalty. they use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. you use them as a punchline. they have neither the time nor the inclination to explain themselves to a man (or woman) who sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that they provide, and then questions the manner in which they provide it. they would rather you just say thank you, and went on your way. otherwise, they suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post.

i'm sure you know the movie. but it was very well said, regardless of the hollywood underpinnings.

With each Islamic nutjob ineffective the international is a bigger subject. would you on the different hand insurgents from in each and each place the middle east utilizing Iraq as a base, say, for assaults in opposition to Israel? additionally, the Kurds do not would desire to stay in worry of having their families gassed by potential of potential of an insane dictator.

Its not really about OUR freedom, its about our governments freedom, and its at odds with the world. These people are not trying to kill Americans, they're trying to get our ATTENTION! Our government and our policies really intrude on other countries liberties and progress, but we don't hear about that. Of course they shouldn't have crashed planes into us and killed thousands of innocents, but these people have no voice, they feel like violence is the only way someones going to listen. Our president has turned their plea into a war cry by telling us they want to take democracy away. These people want to be left alone to their own ways, its American intrusion that pushes them. They want us out of their country COMPLETELY. We have fiscal investments over there, so we stay. This pushes them against our troops. The more we kill, the more injustice they feel and the more empowered they feel to fight back. They are fighting for THEIR country. THEIR freedoms. But alas, we have made quite a mess, and are now obligated to fix what we broke. We'll be over there till the end of time. I support our troops, they are brave and willing to sacrifice for ME. I cannot fathom a proper "thank you" for this, but I believe continuing my quest for happiness is enough for them. Thats all they want for us, and thats the reality that keeps them going. But for all of this, I think they have been put in a position of danger that is unneccessary. It is too late to cry "Bring them home". The damage has been done, and they must stay to see it out to the end. Arabs want our hands out of their pockets and their country. We want to stay and protect our investments from their newly installed leaders. Our troops are sent to do this. Saudis own one third of our economy. If that gets shaky, then we will buckle at the knees and will suffer and struggle to recover.

You need to read and re-read and re-read and re-read the answers that nicolasraage, mott the hoople and sarge 927 gave!! They are on the mark!! I have a suggestion for you, why don't you just go live in another country like Iraq, Iran or better yet, Venezuela or maybe Cuba! I am sure they would welcome you with open arms. I guarantee if you lived there, you would not be allowed to bad mouth the leadership of those countries and get away with it.

This is a poem being sent from a Marine to his Dad.

For those who take the time to read it, you'll see a letter from him to his dad at the bottom. It makes you truly thankful for not only the Marines, but ALL of our troops.

THE MARINE

We all came together,
Both young and old
To fight for our freedom,
To stand and be bold.

In the midst of all evil,
We stand our ground,
And we protect our country
From all terror around.

Peace and not war,
Is what some people say.
But I'll give my life,
So you can live the American way.

I give you the right
To talk of your peace.
To stand in your groups,
and protest in our streets.

But still I fight on,
I don't *****, I don't whine.
I'm just one of the people
Who is doing your time.

I'm harder than nails,
Stronger than any machine.
I'm the immortal soldier,
I'm a U.S. MARINE!

So stand in my shoes,
And leave from your home.
Fight for the people who hate you,
With the protests they've shown.

Fight for the stranger,
Fight for the young.
So they all may have,
The greatest freedom you've won.

Fight for the sick,
Fight for the poor
Fight for the cripple,
Who lives next door.

But when your time comes,
Do what I've done.
For if you stand up for freedom,
You'll stand when the fight's done.

Hey Dad,

Do me a favor and label this "The Marine" and send it to
everybody on your email list. Even leave this letter in it. I want this rolling all over the US; I want every home reading it. Every eye seeing it. And every heart to feel it. So can you please send this for me? I would but my email time isn't that long and I don't have much time anyway. You know what Dad? I wondered what it would be like to truly understand what JFK said in His inaugural speech.

"When the time comes to lay down my life for my country,
I do not cower from this responsibility. I welcome it."

Well, now I know. And I do. Dad, I welcome the opportunity to do what I do. Even though I have left behind a beautiful wife, and I will miss the birth of our first born child, I would do it 70 times over to fight for the place that God has made for my home. I love you all and I miss you very much. I wish I could be there when Sandi has our baby, but tell her that I love her, and Lord willing, I will be coming home soon. Give Mom a great big hug from me and give one to yourself too.

Aaron

That is just one of many of those who are fighting for our freedom. Silly? I think not. Be glad you live in a country others are willing to die for.
