In the epic Ramayana, we come across YOGIs - eating only leaves, others drinking only water, others surviving only by breathing exercises, others licking a stone or eating stones. Many things in it are now real- Vimaana (aero planes), Astras (missiles), Doora darsan (T.V). So if some body succeds on his research on replacing the food by earth or water or air or ether all the beings become most thankful to him for an eternal period. Even now we see some persons who are alright only with one coconut per day, some patients only on glucose water, If some body is doing such research I like to kno please.

It is better to first look at the definition of food as given under: Food is any substance, usually comprised primarily of carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, water and/or proteins, that can be eaten or drunk by animals (including humans) for nutrition and/or pleasure.

So basically whatever we are eating as food gives energy to sustain life. So any research in food would primarily look for substitutes but ultimately it would contain the requisite ingredients as mentioned in the definition.

You're extending your analogy too far; all your examples are of things that are external to the body, and are not necessarily vital to survival. Technology has replaced some things with newer versions or different paradigms for greater efficiency, but (at least for now) it cannot replace biological functions. Even if you were able to live on vitamins and synthetics, someone would have to produce it, transport it, store it, and sell it to you. So the only way that technology can reduce the amount that each of us is beholden on the efforts of others in getting food onto our tables is if the entire process from tilling the dirt to setting the plate in front of you and pouring the wine is completely automated. Otherwise, there will have to be human labor at some point in the process to get food to you, even if you cook your food yourself. I suppose you could buy a tract of land and try to grow all your own food.

It's already been done. Fast food joints - you know the names - have been around for years.

At some of these the coffee is the most nutricious item on the menu and even that has been proven dangerous to at least one now well-off imbecile-patron.
