A majority of Chinese practise Atheism. Educated people in Asia find solace in scientific principles more. Church attendance has declined sharply in Europe and North America since World War II, although it's revived temporarily in Eastern Europe and Russia following the collapse of Communism. Brits, Scandinavians, Dutch, Germans and the Swiss are rationalists to the core. Most scientists and research scholars and other highly-educated people are confirmed atheists, and don't support irrational religious beliefs, in order to end Superstition.

We are living in an increasingly Godless world, where money and material satisfaction is the primary goal of most individuals. Consider in last 10 years alone the Internet evolved, just imagine where technology would lead us 100-150 years from now. People will advance beyond the control of religious clerics. I am postulating that by the year 2100, all religions will die a slow, natural, DESIRABLE death, that will benefit mankind.

I agree with someone who said there is nothing called "atheist beliefs" and nobody "practices" atheism. Please try and follow the gesture of the question, and not waste space on mistakes in my framing it. The same sentence can always be interpreted in many ways. Please let your answers stay true to the direction of the question.

Unfortunately, yes. Let's face it, as humans we are selfish creatures. We don't like anyone or anything telling us what to do, how to live, or how to act. Religions with their rules and creeds and codes push against our natural desire to be right in everything and not have any consequences. Many of the atheists and pagans that I have met have cited this reasons for their change. Even the pagan religions (ie Wicca, Norse gods, eclectic pagans) that I've met don't really follow any other rule other then, "Do as I please". There is no boundaries, which appeals to human nature.

It is a horrible thing that religion is being pushed away by the selfish human spirit. After all, what is harder to follow? The religion or lack of religion that allows you to do as you please, or the religion that lets you know that there will be consequences for doing wrong unto others. And don't quote that Wicca Creed at me, since I've met enough to know that it's a suggestion and not a real rule.

Away from fundamentalist and authoritarian Christianity, certainly, towards Atheism, not so much. I disagree that we are living in an increasingly Godless world, say rather an increasingly Church less one. Organized Religions are dependent on unquestioning obedience to maintain control of their congregations, and educated people are rarely willing to give that. That people are turning their backs on the churches can, in no way, be construed as meaning that they are rejecting the possibility of a Deity of any form, only that the teachings of that particular church are not compatible with their own considered conclusions of what is right and true. I would agree it would benefit mankind for the churches to die out by 2100, then the clerical hierarchy would have to get real jobs.

Hmm...interesting thoughts. I disagree however. While I agree that we are living in an increasingly Godless world, I don't think all the religions will die out. You need to remember that after every tragedy religion makes a comeback. You consider that there are individual tragedies happening every day...people use religion to comfort themselves. Religion is much more than a means to explain the universe, it's a way of living. With that said, no matter how much technology or science is out there it won't take away from the fact that people want to live a certain way.

My theory, as long as there is nature, there will be religion. Unless of course science moves to the point where it can explain everything in nature but I don't see that happening.

Very thought provoking question though. Thanks.

Actually the masses are swaying more towards a new paganism and humanism beliefs. Religion will never die, and it will conquer the world. The question you need to ask yourself is what religion would you prefer to be the dominant one? Atheists like you that fail to grasp that fact are doomed to be forcibly converted to Islam if they succeed. I will die first. Also, I noticed with great curiosity your sentence: "Educated people in Asia find solace in scientific principles more.". Hmmm, could it be atheism is a "crutch" much like you suppose our religion is?

You are correct on almost all accounts - except for the fact that money and material satisfaction have been the primary goals of all people since....organized religion has begun, in the least. Recall, if you will, that the Vatican is the richest country in the world, and also provides the smallest amount of outside aide to other countries.....

That is why we Christians believe in Jesus who said " the way to righteousness is narrow and the road to destruction is wide "
The world has a wide view of things and anyone can fit in the groove anyway they want. But to follow Jesus ( or any religion ) take self discipline and self control.
But for we who do believe, we know that the rewards are worth the sacrifice here on earth. That being self less is much better than being self ish.
I Praise GOD for the fact that I am a believer.

Such a lack of understanding and closed minds, the combined might of the entire world can not "believe" one single atom of lead into gold, and they are right next to each other on the periodic table. Only a God without anything to fear form an entire population of humans would leave us to make up our own minds. If you understand nothing else, understand this. Heaven would be a great place with you, but make no mistake, it will be no less without you. Your choice.

The statistics show decline in atheism, mainly because China is so rapidly becoming Christian. There has been considerable coverage of it in news journalism. And of the global population, only 3.8% is atheist.

Bravo.

Also, loo at what science has finally done. We have encroached on terrain that was previously 'Gods', such as Genetic Manipulation, Ground-breaking Medicine, Nuclear Energy and the like..

Frankly, if their ever was a 'God', we killed him long ago, or at least made him Unemployed.

it was on it's way in USA in 1950's and 1960's thanks to sound education

sadly the USA now falls direly behind the world

foreign exchange students for college are minimal, because other nations do not accredit our poor systems save a few like MIT or Harvard

those who say "god" often are the ones living godlessly and inhumanely to others
