For example, I said "pissed" in the last question and it was said this was bad language. Words are just words are they not? What they are intended as is what gives them meaning. By that same token, I could substitute any word I wanted and it would have the same meaning as pissed, yet the new word wouldn't be a bad word? I could have said angry, but meant it in the really really angry that "pissed" implies. Has religion caused all this pointless rethinking of words calling some "bad" and others not?

The person who answered you (whom I will not name) is infamous for typing before s/he thinks.

Personally, although "bad words" offend me, I don't correct another adult -- unless they use blasphemy when speaking to me.

To answer your question: yes.

Peace.

p.s. -- "Will" -- GOOD CATCH. I guess that's what I miss by mostly using the NKJV!

The word "piss" is used in the King James Bible and so religion is not the reason it is a bad word.

What seems to be the cause in English is that words of Germanic origin are considered more vulgar than words of Romance language origen. For example, piss vs. urine.

I wasn't aware that was a "bad word"!! that's pretty funny! I think that religion has it's influence over society and that's where people get so funny about different words. I think a persons attitude can be more offensive and vulgar than the actual words they use.

No, the bad words come from the base english of poor people. For example the first flushable toilet was invented by a man named "Crapper" from this we get the word Cr*p. It has nothing to do with religion, rather good taste.

Knowledge

I also had someone once tell me it meant
Fornication
Under the

No, bad words are culturally defined, not religiously defined.
