Sheba Inu, a mid-sized dog, like a small Akita. They look more like large foxes than wolves because they have reddish orange and white fur but I think some of the UKC registered ones may have darker coats if that is your preference. They still have the big fluffy coat and build of a wolf-like dog. Very quiet and neither hyper nor lazy. Very pretty dogs, somewhat independent but still friendly.

Also a German Sheppard is a good breed, just don't get the pure-breed AKC registered ones raised in the US. The practices of inbreeding to make a perfect looking German Sheppard has made the breed weak and unhealthy. If you get a half-breed or a UKC registered working class or a European raised German Sheppard you will have a great dog. They are a bit more active though and need more training and exercise than the Sheba Inu, also a bit larger.

What about a mix breed? There the Alaskan Malamutes but they need a strong owner. Years ago I had a shepherd husky cross that looked like a wolf but was a mix of both breeds personalities. So she was calmer than a husky but still had the friendliness of the husky. And she also had the shepherds loving loyal personality.

look at your lifestyle-you should get a dog that fits!! take into consideration your home and what you expect from your dog and what your dog was bred to do-a husky is bred to pull a sledge across snow fields if you lived in a warm climate city such a dog is totally unsuitable!!! hope that helps choosing the wrong companion would be cruel to you and the dog! A lab fits your description totally, but make sure you choose the right breeder-a lab from hunting strain is not as laid back as a show or pet dog

u could try collies, or a mix like i had.
It was a mix of a female collie and a male husky it wasn't as fierce a a husky and it was helpfull and calm.
It was so cute when there was lightning cuz he always hid underneath the covers at night with me.

each dog regardless of breed has its own personality, sounds to me like you know what type of personality you want in a dog why not go to the local shelter and look at the slightly older dogs? you can evaluate there personality and temperment.
if your dead set on a certain breed or look in a dog and want a puppy go look at litters and remember just because you look at a litter of puppies does not obligate you to buy one of them.

Dog's are individuals, Personality traits can't be bred just like humans. Some can be more higher than others. Chose one you are most attracted to. If you chose a big dog remember no mater the size they like to curl up on your lap.
