For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

Those verses you quoted , not only reveal the truth about death, but it shows that the hellfire doctrine cannot be true. Death is the opposite of life and those sleeping in death await a resurrection back to life here on earth. They are not being tortured because thay are incapable of knowing or feeling anything.
The resurrection hope is a wonderful thing and can help to comfort those who have lost loved ones in death.

You can't control how other people are going to react to whatever it is you read or say, ESPECIALLY at a funeral. Everyone there will have suffered a loss, and reactions to that are so unpredictable and varied.

This is what I read at my grandfather's funeral. I was asked to read a Bible verse even though I'm Pagan, and I did it for my family because I didn't think it was a time to fight:

Ecclesiastes 3 WEB

1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:

2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace

Another example of picking a line or two out of a passage or chapter of scripture to prove a point that was not there. In the end, those who believe will still believe and those who don't won't.

If I was an unbeliever and heard this at a funeral, it would surely cause me to ponder my on eternal destination. But because I am saved, if I ever hear this at a funeral, I will pray that the unbelievers soften their hearts to the word of God, and give in to Jesus Christ because he would obviously be warning them to gives their lives to Him.

No, I think most people cry for the loss of their loved one in their daily lives...not out of fear of where the soul ends up.

And just what is 'death as it is'?

My Mother died this last July. None of what you wrote would have had any meaning for me.
