Have any of you known anyone who has immigrated to this country anytime in the last 5-10 years? It is a time-consuming, EXPENSIVE, legal nightmare! Mexican families are starving--they don't have the luxury of time on their hands. They have no choice. We should consider them heros for risking their lives to come into a country where there are a bunch of idiots who hate them and want them to go back.

About half of my family is illegal. And they all do crappy odd jobs that pay less than minimum wage. They would do anything to support thier families, even if it means getting up in the morning to do a job that the lazy legals dont want. Those guys on the freeway holding up signs?.................yeah, those idiots who cant get their asses up and work

I did, 6 years ago and I did it legal.

It is not THAT expensive and complicated that I see this as a good excuse to be illigal.

And another point that I keep reading: poor illigals have to work for less than minimum wage. So what? If they would have come here legal they wouldn't have to, right? I started working 3 years ago at minimum wage and worked my way up, I pay taxes and got my citizen ship last year. Why would I want to see the illigals as heros? They break the law and get themself in a worse position then they came out of, what is so heroic about this?
They hardly make enough to support their (big?) families? How many americans are in the same boat? How many american families can't afford health insurance? I know a lot of them, they work a lot of hours and still struggling to get their bills payed, can't go to see the doctor because they don't have the money for it!

I think that this has to be taken care of first, as long as there are so many people in the own country live without health care they should be first to get help

They have a choice. They can stay in Mexico and work to change things there> But no they choose to break the laws of our country. A criminal is not a hero. Anything worth having is worth working for so they need to do it the legal way and then no one would say go home. Legal immigration is hard for a reason. Not everyone who wants to should be able to come here without going thru the proper channels.

You make it sound as if Mexico is another Biafra or Ethopia, with people starving to death like flies ... that is actually far from the truth ... there ARE jobs in Mexico, Tijuana is a good example, but of course they pay Mexican wages ...

The Mexican constitution, if you care to read it, guarantees a living wage for every worker ... do you think, if all the businesses here who hire illegals would pay them in pesos, the same amount as they would earn in Mexico, they would come here? Starvation isn't the issue ....

And it is not a legal nightmare to do the paperwork legally, nor is it as costly as it would be to hire a coyote ... and yes, I know people who have come here legally during the last 3 years actually ... with no hassle ... if you meet the criteria ... and if you don't, you shouldn't be here in the first place .... sorry ....

Yes, my sister-in-law immigrated after she married my brother and was pregnant with their first child. It was indeed time-consuming, and considering that they were newlyweds and she was carrying a baby time was of the essence, but they both had the patience to make sure she immigrated legally. It was not that expensive, the biggest cost was the plane ticket here.

Your argument that Mexican families are starving is false, there is plenty of food in Mexico and for the hundreds of thousands of illegal Mexican immigrants I've seen who are fresh from sneaking over the boarder, I've never seen a single one who was starving or even slightly underweight (with the exception of junkies). And they do indeed have a choice, they can go through the process of getting a green card like so many legal Mexicans. I, along with most other law-abiding legal Americans, do not consider them heroes, but we do consider ignorant fools like yourself to be idiots (not to mention criminals) for trying to give away our tax dollars to invaders.

There are programs to help immigrants become legal. There is also a screening process. Only ONE of those is to prove you can become a productive member of society. You have to work and pay taxes. If you come here with absolutely no marketable skills and can't speak the language your first stop once you are legal will be to hit the welfare office. Then not only are our government and taxpayers paying for you, but your quality of life has not improved.

I would consider your questions legitimate if you could provide some solutions as how to pay for non-productive immigrants to live in this country. Do you want to pay higher taxes to give them free health-care. Can every other American afford to pay higher taxes?

Its a nice gesture, but not very well thought out.

This is America the last thing people see illegals as is heros. Man you are going to get some pissed off people answering this question. My best friend in the Philippines is having a hard to getting here legally because she has to find a job so she can get a work visa and its expensive for her to fly over here. Also you shouldnt make it sound as if all Americans hate illegals. I would say about 95% of Americans hate illegals.

What would the illegals do if Mexico didn´t border the US and they had nowhere to go? They´d have to solve their own problems in their own country now, wouldn´t they?

I know there is nothing simple about the legal US immigration process better than most. My dad came LEGALLY from Mexico after being denied a visa twice. Good things come to those who wait. Can´t afford to wait? Come up with another solution, i.e, struggling to survive in your OWN country, not somebody else´s. I live in Mexico and I see that there is hope for this country every day. There are good jobs available to those who are hard-working and want them, but Mexico, just like the US, has lazy people who over-price their labor and think that they are "too good" to do certain jobs.

There's a reason it's time-consuming and expensive. Because if it were easy, EVERYONE would do it. We don't want the whole world coming here, I'm sorry, but we send out money and food to the poor around the world so they don't come here to work for minimum wage and get on food stamps. Use your head.

I don't think it is simple to do it legally. I don't think it SHOULD be simple to do it legally. All countries limit how many poor can come because poor people use more funds in services like education and health care than they pay in taxes - even if they pay all taxes. Each one is a net loss, and when you multiply that by 11 to 20 million, you get a catastrophe for schools and services.

Illegal immigrants are budget busters who are ruining our schools. Unless you can fix the school issue you won't convince any parents.

Then Mexican Families should rise up against their government, have a good old fashioned civil war, and remake their country into a place that can become prosperous. It's called a good old fashioned Civil war.

I mean, every other country has done it, why is it the freaking mexicans are too lazy to fix their problems?
