My dad asked me what I want to do for my 13-th birthday (tomorrow) and I told him nothing. And he said that I am really weird and that anyone my age would want to have a birthday party. He also said he'll take me to a phsyciatrist to see what is wrong with me. I don't know why he reacted like that. I have friends,just having birthdays gets me overwhelmed and I feel akward. Am I weird?

I didn't have birthdays till I got engaged, so I kind of acted like I didn't miss it, but I know it is considered a joyous, happy thing...and I really did miss them.
You could be going through a stage where you don't want to do anything that makes you feel like a little kid now that you're officially a teen. But. If your father thinks you're depressed or something, then he would not base it solely upon your lack of enthusiasm for turning into a teen.
It is a little unusual that you didn't say you wanted to spend time with friends or play a video game all day or something. Your dad must be picking up on something and the birthday was his way of knowing he needs to help you, because he loves you.
You will benefit from doing what your father says about visiting the psychiatrist coz they can help you see why you are getting overwhelmed and "awkward" about some things. Good luck.

No, you are not alone in this feeling. Lots of people don't want to celebrate their birthdays...you don't need a phsyciatrist, either. Tell your dad the best birthday present he could give you is to let you be for the day and to take care of yourself.

I think he's blowing things a bit out of proportion about talking to a shrink. You aren't weird. My best friend in HS hated having her bday celebrated for the same reason so me and her always did something small together.

I don't think you are weird. You just don't want to have a party so what. Just think god you have live another year and move on. If all else fails tell your dad to take you shopping. : )

Just because you want to save your "birthday spankings" for later doesn't make you wierd for not wanting a big party. keep it small, just family.
