They WORK HARD for the little money they do earn to support their families back in Mexico. They bust their humps landscaping, cleaning people's houses, cleaning your children's schools, picking the fruits and vegetables you eat. How does that make them any different than you and your family? Their illegal status actually hurts them more than any American could ever imagine, because they have no legal means to fight the fact that their employers usually pay them even less than what they should, because they know they cannot get sued.

What if the American government is telling them NO, when they try to immigrate legally (THE RIGHT WAY), or tie them up in years of expensive, legal proceedings. Their own government is too poor, there is no work for them there, and their families are starving--they have little choice, but to immigrate illegally.

I am very sympathetic toward the Mexican, I believe they are only here because they can get a decent wage to support there family. If Americans will not do the job that the immigrants will do then what is wrong with that. I have always found that most Mexicans are friendly family oriented people and deserve to be here making a living as long as they do not break our laws. Probably as many Americans view the Mexicans as sponging as the number of Mexican illegals that are here for that reason. By the way I am not Mexican.

I am completely torn on this matter. I agree with the majority of people who say that there are legal ways to come into the country. But when you are desparate to adequately feed your family and provide for them, while your friends tell you about the abundant work in the U.S.? Think about it guys, when things are really bad, you will do anything to make it better. It takes thousands of dollars (which these people don't have or else they wouldn't need to come here) and years to get your visa. I'm not saying coming here illegally is right, just an act of desperation.

That said, how can you NOT believe that illegal immigration taxes this country's well-being and economy?!?! They require healthcare that they can't pay for, causing many border hospitals to cut back services to US citizens. They don't carry driver's licenses or insurance in many cases (how do they pay for damages). And of course, a certain minority of them will run into trouble with the law, causing uproar over the cost of processing and jailing them. Not to mention that most are paid "under the table" so they won't pay income taxes on their earnings, like the rest of us. And sending large amounts of money into a foreign country (it is one of Mexico's largest sources of income as a whole), can't possible be good for our economy.

So why can't we all agree that it is a difficult situation, that we were ALL immigrants at some point (kinda rude to say, "now that I'M here, lets shut the border to anyone else) and that they do provide a service - cheap labor. Don't we all like to pay $1 for a burger at McDonald's? Wouldn't be so cheap if we paid living wages to US citizens to pick the lettuce and tomato that goes into it. And when was the last time YOU checked the legality of the guy that mows your lawn or cleans your house?

And please don't let a few bad apples (this country has plenty of them, legal AND illegal) tarnish the reputation of these people who weren't as fortunate as the rest of us in choosing where to be born (not really a CHOICE is it?).

It's a very difficult problem without an easy answer. If you think YOU can solve it in one sentence or less on Y!A, you must be a complete GENIUS!!

If their illegal status hurts them, they shouldn't be here! It is all very well to be compassionate about people, but we CAN'T take in all the world's starving, and there are more people starving in the rest of the world than Mexico ... I'm sure there are people in Africa and Asia who would "bust their humps landscaping" too if given a chance ... do you advocate we take in the same number of people from Asia and Africa? Another 20 million Asians, another 20 million Africans? Who will in turn take in their families? Where will it end? And why should we make an exception for Mexicans? Isn't that discriminatory?

There is a reason why we have immigration laws, we just cannot afford to take in all the world's poor, no matter how much our hearts bleed for them ...

ok! i'm Brazilian and that i stay in Brazil. i'm descended from Europeans. Mexicans are a fusion of cultures and American Indigenous and ecu races (especially Spaniards). Brazilians are a fusion of cultures and white Europeans (especially Portugueses), Indians and black Africans races, and a few Asians like Japaneses, Arabians and Jews. The Latin American peoples at the instant are not so comparable besides. Uruguayans, Argentineans and Southerner Brazilians are only approximately completely white. Brazilians from Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, has a majority of African descendants, as Caribbean Islands. The Amazon's area is inhabited with the help of Indians and mestizos between Indians and ecu whites, as Mexico and Andean international places. The impression of yank way of existence is greater suitable in Mexico than in Brazil. The Brazilians don't get basically U.S. impression. in addition they acquire from ecu international places (southern states), slightly fromJapan (states of São Paulo and Paraná). Mexico has each thing to be a great usa. Mexico is the successor of two great pre-Columbian civilizations, the Aztecs and Mayans. Brazil basically is that this that's because of the fact the Portugueses got here here and colonized this area of the international. yet Mexico already had a prior civilization. you're welcome!

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and
I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a
fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America....if you agree, pass it on (in English). Share it if you see the value of it as a good smile. If not blow it off along with your future Social Security funds, and a lot of other things.

Because they ARE sponging. Nobody is denying that most of them work hard (in spite of the fact that many of them are gang members who spread drugs & violence everywhere they go), but the simple fact is that if they are here illegally then whatever job they're doing has been stolen from a legal citizen (regardless of the rhetorical argument that "they do jobs Americans don't want to do"). Stop apologizing for illegal activity when they have the option of coming here legally just like anyone else, but choose not to.

Because most americans feel they are better than anyone else and they are afraid that the mexican population will one day be the predominate one here.Actually,I'm not sure if thats true or not.But i do know there are alot of racist haters out there that claim they only dislike the illegal ones.Yeah,right.These ppl(illegals)work very hard for what they have.I'm sure if our laws were easier, they would all be legal. But as it stands, america is almost immpossible to enter legally.Especially if you are from a poor country.

Honey,

Does that mean if a bank robber can't pay his MasterCard, it's OK to rob the bank?

Sponging is all about pluggin' into our social services. Sponging is all about fraudulently using an innocent persons Social Security Number. Sponging is all about taking money under the table.

I don't feel sorry for those who cannot complain when they are not treated properly by their employeers. Thieves never do trust each other and can never be trusted, both ways.

I could go on and on but it won't matter. Illegals are fighting like cornered rats, because they are wrong to be here.

I don't understand why people say "Mexicans" do the job that Americans don't want to do. Well tell me this then, why where these jobs done before they started coming over. Somebody was doing, but when you as an employer have someone telling you " hey i can do that job and do it way cheaper", what do you think they are going to do. I have no problem with people wanting to better their life status, what i have a problem with is doing it illegally.
