A guy at work wanted me to try his new cigar. After pushing and pushing I finally agreed to try it. I found out later that he is HIV+. I have heard debates that you can get aids from spit. Do you think it is true and that I can have HIV from taking a puff off of a cigar?

I think its possible, but not very likely since you werent sharing spit, as in kissing. I woulnt chance anything though, talk to your doctor and get tested frequently this next year. You need to keep an eye on this to catch it early if you do.

good luck

nope so be reassured. AIDS can only be transmitted by blood and body secretions which are mainly vaginal fluid and seminal fluid also known as semen. one thing though. all body secretions have the virus in it but the amount present in spit is so insignificant that you will the risk of contracting AIDS by contact with spit is most unlikely. the spit will be found mostly on your lip and the virus doesn't live long outside the body. know that for such adeadly virus it is very easy to destroy it if it is not given the appropriate conditions so as proliferate. it is a very fragile virus and exposure to the outer environment will kill it in hours even less i think. however if your lips had been hurt and that you had an open wound in your mouth or on the lips then you should do a check up because remember blood transmits the virus.
good luck and hope that it helped

Hi cigar smoker. No you cannot get HIV from smoking a cigar. My friend has just been diagnosed with HIV, and she is busy educating me, on the do's and dont's. An HIV person can kiss people and there is no threat. Do a bit a research on how HIV is contacted and be informed. from Cape Town, South Africa.

there have been debates. But, the latest research shows that you can't get aids from putting his cigar in your mouth. If you want to be absolutely sure, then you should go to the doctor or even a clinic and they could council you. If you feel like you need to be tested, then there are plenty of places to go to. Planned Parenthood works on a sliding fee scale. so, if you don't have insurance you could try there. they work with people and it's not just for women.

NO.

Dont share needles or use drugs.

That how you get aids.

Studies show that Aids isnt really very likely to be sexually transmitted.

Physics-student is full of hot air about vaginal secretions. The latest study from 543 lesbos showed that they were all in lesbo relationship with HIV postive partner and that nobody seroconverted that did not have other risk factors, i.e., IV drug usage.

No you wont get AIDS form a puff of his cigar. First you need to swallow a gallon of his saliva to get AIDS unless you have an open sore in your mouth/lips or cut that his saliva could have touched, then there's a possibility. You can get tested if you want to know for sure.

Highly unlikely, since the HIV virus is present in very small quantities in saliva. That said, this guy sounds like a jerk for pressuring you into sharing like this, knowing his HIV status and the panic it can create in other people.

WOW!!!Thats scary!! Maybe thats why he insisted in you trying to smoke, thats crazy im not too sure but i dont think that you can het HIV from that since we swallow saliva and our stomach has some pretty strong acids that if we were able to take some of that acid and pour some in a rug in would burn w hole through it. But just to double check go to your Dr. Excuse my ignorance the rest of you guys that may have a better answer, but like ive said b4 we are all here to give the best of our opinions and help as much as we can. God Bless and be careful!!! There are so crazy/weird people out there.
