Has anyone mentioned the allergies to the boss?

A polite chat would be the best start, if you haven't tried this. It may be possible to work out a compromise where the allergic people avoid exposure.

There certainly IS a "health issue" -- the laws probably depend on what state you're in.

But bringing legal action against an employer can make for poor work relations. The allergic people may want to look for other employment.

On the other hand, the employer may not want to lose employees over this issue.

The laws that cover that are state laws. What state are you in? In Alaska, where I am, it is permitted, legally.

It is inconsiderate though if someone is allergic. I hope these dogs are contained in one area. There may be laws though covering an "unsafe" working environment. It would be unsafe was someone who has allergies to be around dogs.

I love dogs, so this answer does not come from a bad attitude, but why do other people think we all need to be exposed to their dogs? I know not everyone likes dogs.

Find another job. He obviously values the dogs more than his employees.

Small businesses are usually exempt from alot of the laws that govern larger ones.

It is inconsiderate, but maybe not illegal. I know that if I went to see a doctor and there was always dogs running around the office, and the receptionist was sneezing, I would find another doctor.

Did you say he is the employer?

Do you want to keep your job (forget about the "laws" question- that's life, baby).
