I saw this a lot when I was in also. It is a combination of young men who have never been far from home before and are inexperienced and women who see them as either an easy meal ticket or a good prospect for the future. I know this makes the women sound bad but I saw it more times than I care to think about on active duty.

My boyfriend became a Marine while we were dating and to make a long story short, we broke up for about nine months while he was in Japan. Well, we're back together now and married, but during the time we were apart he wrote to girls online and slept with a girl in Thailand. I'm not saying that this goes for everyone, but I think that when you're with a bunch of the same guys all the time, you just want to be able to have a relationship with a woman. For a lot of them, they don't see women very often, if at all. So, it's kinda like an empty place that needs filled and some are just naive to marry without it truly being love. I hope this made sense... lol.

Some marry women to get the increase in pay by collecting BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing), or to get out of the Barracks. Others marry so they have someone to come home to after deployments or long days at work. Still others just had WAY too much to drink!!!!!!!

first off great question. many of the guys in the service meet someone while in school and dont want to lose them. my huby and i are a great example of this . we knew each other 4 months when we got married. we are still happily married. some do it because they dont want to ba alone and so they can live away from their command. single men and women in the navy hubbys branch of dservice live on the ship. many of these guys get married so they can qualify for bah basic allotment for housing. so they can live off the ship or out of barracks

Because they want the experience of marriage just in case they die young during war. They don't have time to do long-term dating, so they marry women that they hardly know.

Many times its a tax, income and housing play and the girl wants US citizenship. So some Navy guy marries her to get an increased per diem (the married rate) and a lower tax rate and never has to see her.
This IS illegal though and if caught there are consequences.

Actually I knew my ex husband for 6 months and my hubby now for 6 months before we married.
first one was a mistake- but my marriage now is great.

i think its because there lonely and want a family around them, my ex-boyfriend was upset that i was getting married (he's in the army) so after knowing a stripper for 2 weeks he married her, then 2 weeks later he had to leave to go overseas, well it only lasted 2 months because she was cheating on him and only God knows what else, we're friends now, he later told me he didn't love her, he was just upset about me getting married
