She wakes up almost thrice at night for breast milk. I ensure that she gets enough food at night but she still wakes up no matter what or how much she eats. This is leaving me with little sleep. How do I get my baby to sleep thru the night?

hi, my son was the same way. he only started sleeping through the night when I stopped breastfeeding. I guess my milk supply was not enough, so he got hungry more often.

i suggest giving him formula at bedtime instead of breastfeeding. formula takes longer to digest, and babies sleep longer.

I have a one year old daughter and she only wake up once every night and that is about 4-5 am for breastmilk. Her daily routine is simple. She wakes up at 8am and take her shower and breakfast then it will be her play time until about 1pm where she have her lunch then a short nap for not more than 2hours. By the time she wakes up it will be about 4pm normally and she will start playing again and dinner at 7.30pm and than shower and TV time. I will put her to sleep at about 10.30pm onwards after I breastfeed her and she will sleep all the way till about 4-5am. I will make sure that her play time did not tire her up too much as this will make her won't be able to sleep well. You can try giving her a massage before you put her to sleep and don't overfeed her as she will be too full to sleep well to. I have four kids myself age 1, 2, 4 and 6.

My 5 year old only recently started sleeping right through the night, some kids are just like that!

Maybe give her some water instead of milk when she wakes? Don't stay in her room, quietly give her some water, settle her in bed and then go back to bed. If you're lucky this will work after about a fortnight. If you're unlucky, you've got one like my son and it'll take years!

Good luck!

start waking her up about 8 or 8:30 in the morning , take her outside and let her get plenty of playtime , she can have a nap about 1 or 2:00 , and only for about an 1 1/2 hr. then try more activities, plenty of supper, a good warm bath with lavender or vanilla baby shampoo, then lay her in the cribb, play a movie or read to her. leave a night light that has low dembed colors so if she does happen to wake up it wont be to bright or too dark and she can go back to sleep. this works with mine, i hope it helps

First of all, do not sleep with her.

Second, when she cries- go to her and lay her back down. Do not take her out of the crib. Rub her back, sing a song, and talk very soothingly to her. Do not spend more than 5 minutes. Say good night and walk out of the room.

She is in the habit of your comfort. You are in the habit of giving her comfort when she cries. You need to change the comfort to something that is less needy. Gradually she will sleep through the night. She does not need the nutrition at this age if she is getting plenty during the day.

Dear
never allow her to sleep in the afternoons
and keep her wake until night untill you go to bed.
initially it is not going to be easy,
but take care her health is not affected due to this change in routine.

Oil Bath her daily evening before night fall.
and compulsory Brest feed her just before you sleep
if she is sleeping wake her and do this

If possible, practise giving her only bottle milk at night
and breast feed only if needed in the day.

All the best
sweet dreams

She might just like the comfort and the sucking reflex. I would pick her up and hug her and cuddle her and then put her back down. She might cry for a little bit but she needs to learn to do some self comforting. Let her cry and comfort her self. Then when she wakes up she will put herself back to sleep. Find something that helps comfort her like a stuffed animal, a blankie or something. She will eventually learn to help herself. She needs to learn that and you need her to learn that.

if u r sure she is eating plenty then she is doing it more for comfort than fuel soooo don't offer the breast when she gets up you have to just rock her or stroll around the house carrying her. it is more of a habit to her now. good luck

maybe give her a bath right before bed with a big supper. she is just waking up out of habbit, and if you continue to feed her everytime she wakes up then she won't quit. Is she truly waking up because of hunger or is her diaper wet/ cold / hot / restless????
