It's like saying Santa is a catholic, or the Easter bunny is a baptist. You can call a fictitious character anything you want.

you make a good point
the whole idea of "chosen ones" or chosen group....
sounds pretty elitist or racist to me
but Jesus advocated good works more than the letter of the Law...used examples to show mankind had put more emphasis on the law than the good deed meant to be done by following a law
sum of the law was love god and self/ love your neighbor the rest is commentary
to believe that many men and women survived a male dominated race with a man god and then say only people born of a jewish mom are jewish is silly
many are now interbred with other people, in fact if we came from Adam and Eve then the whole idea of a chose race is ludicrous
good point 2Pac

Because he is the King of the Jews, Gods chosen people.
Jews (Hebrew: ×Ö°××Ö¼×Ö´××, Yehudim; Yiddish: ××Ö´××, Yiden) are followers of Judaism or, more generally, members of the Jewish people (also known as the Jewish nation, or the Children of Israel), an ethno-religious group descended from the ancient Israelites and from converts who joined their religion. The term also includes those who have undergone an officially recognized formal process of religious conversion to Judaism. The current Jewish population is over 14.5 million, the majority of whom live in the United States and Israel.

There are more than one definition to that word, as there are for so many words:
Jew /dÊu/ Pronunciation Key - [joo]
–noun
1.one of a scattered group of people that traces its descent from the Biblical Hebrews or from postexilic adherents of Judaism; Israelite.
2.a person whose religion is Judaism.
3.a subject of the ancient kingdom of Judah.
–adjective
4.Offensive. of Jews; Jewish.
–verb (used with object)
5.(lowercase) Offensive. to bargain sharply with; beat down in price (often fol. by down).
Jesus was a Jew by descent, and by geographic location, and by religious affliation.
John 4:9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
John 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
He said that he was a Jew.

He was a Jew but He got baptized as an adult. I believe that He wanted to free us from religions and teach us to have a personal relationship with God. So as Christians we are followers of Christ, not followers of religion.

Because there was no Christian religion at the time of Jesus. Jesus did not worship himself. He was a Jew and if you read the bible, you will read that his disciples often call him rabbi.
PS. I am not a Christian. I was, but am an Atheist now.

Because Jesus was a Jew. His mother Mary and earthly father Joseph were both Jews and during the time of his birth Jews had to travel to their hometown and pay their taxes. Joseph's hometown was Bethlehem. Since Jesus was aJew that is why King Herod wanted to kill all newborn males born into Jewish families so to be sure that Jesus would be killed.

You can read the genealogies found in both Matthew and Luke, and see his pedigree is Jewish. (Matthew 1, Luke 3) He was born to the House of David, in Bethlehem. (Matthew 2:1, Luke 2:4-7) His mother and step-father were Jewish. He went to the Temple, which was forbidden to non-Jews. (Luke 2:42)
He stated that He was the Messiah, and that salvation was from the Jews. (John 4:22)
So yes, Jesus was Jewish.

A jew is a race, not just a religion, if your mother is jewish you are jewish, mary was jewish -> jesus was a jew. He could hardly be a christian could he, they didn't exist till after he died. Strangely enough, he didn't read the bible because it hadn't been written, he would have studied the torah (jewish scripture)
