the author is a black american woman at the time of seggregation

The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill for the caged bird
sings of freedom
The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

Even though at the time she wrote it, African-Americans were no longer slaves, they were still slaves to societal whim. Their wings were clipped and they were stuffed into a categorical cage that did not allow them to pursue their hopes and dreams. There were slaves who dreamed of freedom, but the kind of freedom they got during segregation wasn't freedom at all.

That is a beautiful poem. The poem is the African American's longing for freedom. Even though the caged bird can not be free, his song tells everyone of his longing to be free.

The poem is written by the great Maya Angelou. She is an incredible writer and I'm assuming this is some sort of project you need to do. Research Maya Angelou and her own comments about the poem. It is a very well known one that shares the same title as her "autobiography".

Everyone in this world deserves life and freedom, doing what he wants to do and came out as himself , no matter who he is or how he looked like. The birds who sings inside his cage describes his pain and he juz sings to cried out his wishes, couse there's nothing he can do about it. He was tight up.
