Side effects are different for every person. Drs don't know enough about psychiatric drugs to prescribe them as readily as they do.
I spent six weeks on a med that caused an atypical reaction that almost cost me my life, so I can only caution you to seek help for a psychiatrist if you think you may need meds. Even meds like Zoloft or Prozac that it seems like "everybody" takes can cause tragic side effects in some people.

I have tried Zoloft, Paxil, and Prozac, and by far, the one with the fewest side effects is Prozac. I have been taking it for years, now. No problems.

Zoloft left me feeling not depressed, but I had no energy. I laid in bed all day. I had no motivation to get out of bed, or to go out of the house. I hated it.
Lexapro left me feeling hung over every morning- basically, it dehydrated me badly, leaving me with a raging headache, a dry throat and cotton mouth, and shakey.
Wellbutrin worked the best for me, though even that was not perfect. I had no side effects that left me feeling gross, or lazy. I just never felt like myself.

I just started taking zoloft and it gives me a "I-don't-care" attitude with absolutly no energy. Last night I started taking it at night. I am going to give it a few more weeks and see. I had been taking welbutrin for several years, but it started losing its effect. I needed something more. Mine is more for anxiety than depression. I tried celexa, but it seemed to make me gain weight. Welbutrin was great at keeping the weight off though.

Cannabis has been found to be quite effective as an anti-depressant and it has little to none side effects. However, it is illegal in most countries and that is the problem.

Wellbutrin was nice , and has few sexual side--effects. but some people are seizure prone, and shouldn't take it. Or if they are in detox and coming off alcohol, which might lead to seizures, they should not take it.
I had to convince my shrink to take me off it because of alcohol withdrawal. He went to Lexapro, which constipated me. Constipation is one of the most common side--effects, of many medications, and it is a pain in the butt, pardon me for the bad pun.
