I buy 3 family size packs of hamburg. I make 4 meatloafs, 2 meatballs, 6 sheppards pie, maccoroni and hamburg meals, spagetti sauce. Hamburg is the best. I always have hamburg because you can make so many different meals. As long as you have hamburg, noodles, and tomatoe soup you will be okay. So I would say stock up on those....plus potatoes...any should be able to make quite a few meals out of it. Also you could try going to a food bank or a church organization to get help to add on to what you can make with the 89 dollars.

I'm really sorry that this is happening to you in this day & age when we should all be getting along foodwise better. I know what it feels like, we always get through the bad times though, I know you can too if. Hamburger helper, spaghetti & sauce, a box of insatnt rice, a big bag of potatoes, catch my drift...you might not be having gourmet dinners for the next while but buy in bulk it's usually cheaper. Hope you guys get the help you need.

BREAKFAST:
No cold cereal, it's not only expensive, but most aren't even very fiberous or nutritious and the ones that are are expensive. Try this: Buy old fashioned oats in bulk (99 cents a pound) and cook with water or milk. Adjust amount to fit your family's breakfast needs, but probably 2 cups of oats with 4 cups of water/milk (or a mix of the two) should be good. You can microwave the mixture in a glass or pyrex dish for about 3 minutes or so, stirring every 1.5 minutes or so. Adjust with more or less liquid when you figure out what your favorite consistance is. Add sugar and cinnammon, and raisins to each bowl.
This is not only inexpensive, it's so good for the whole family. the oats will actually lower cholestrol and this breakfast sticks with you until lunch, making you feel full and energized.

LUNCH/ DINNER
Buy chicken when it goes on sale and freeze it. Same with frozen veggies. Stock up when there's a sale. Also Walmart sells great cubed steak for special occasions. pan fry it's like expensive steak (don't over cook). Buy ground beef on sale and freeze (see my recipe for meatloaf below)

MEAT LOAF:
2 pounds of ground beef + 4 slices of milk soaked white bread (day old bread works best) add a 1/4 cup of oats and salt to taste. Mix all then put in oven @ 350 for about 45 minutes. The bread and oats will NOT be detected, but they will add a moist and yummy flavor and texture that not only makes the meat more economical by "stretching" it, but more delicious and lower in fat. It's a great trick even if you have all the money in the world.

Chicken: Take thawed chicken, pan fry with skin on 9and lid of pan partially on), then remove skin after it's cooked. Serve with any of the following sides.

SIDES:
Baked potatoes: Wash well and pop into the microwave for about 8 minutes for 5 potatoes. Check them after 5 minutes, if not cooked, cook only in 1 minute intervals then check until fork inserted goes into the potato easily. Don't cook until wrinkled.

Frozen veggies: follow directions on package

Rice: This side dish is healthy and inexpensive. Just buy any long grain rice and cook with a 2:1 ratio to water (2 cups of rice with almost 4 cups of water). That little less water will make it fluffier. So put water, rice, a spoon of oil and 1 tsp (level) salt. Cover and let boil, then reduce heat and time about 20 minutes on simmer.

Pasta: follow directions and the use store bought sauce.
I hope these help you. I had to put healthy food on the table for 10 months, MANY year ago for three people too. These are really great meals and they don't sacrifice nutrition. Hope you try them and love them as much as we did and still do.

Make rice and then freeze it. It is not expensive.

Buy flower and bake bread. What you will pay for flower is a lot cheaper and will last you longer then buying bread daily or every few days. If you have access to a pc (which you appear to), you can find on line recepies.

Pasta is another option. You can also freeze it. Chicken is usually the least expensive meat, so are pork chops. Get some eggs and be creative in cooking, you can bake a cake (with some flower, of course) and a lot of other things.

Start buy buying cheaper cuts of meat (hamburger vs. steak; chicken drumsticks vs. boneless breasts), etc.

Try to make casseroles. With many of them, you can double the recipes and instead of putting it in a 13 X 9 pan, you can split it up between two 8 X 8 pans and wrap one well and freeze it for later.

I really don't think you can live on $89 per month though. I have a family of four (my husband, me and two toddlers) and we spend about $200 every two weeks. Good luck to you!

I get by alot with using pasta for the filler....I try to buy things like canned roast beef, can of celery soup and egg noodles..mix together and you have stroganoff. Then maybe another day I will have canned chicken, can of vegall, adn mushroom soup with egg noodles and some cheese and throw in oven and you have chicken bake. 1 onion, 4 potatoes , beef stew, all boiled together until meat is done.....make rice.....put rice in a boil and pour soup over .....do things like this that would go far....Good luck..i will be praying for you...BTW...go to the local food bank or contact your local church...they will help GOd bless

Rice - buy the biggest bag you can. Buy soup bones from a butcher - boil them in water with some salt and you've got cheap broth. Use the broth to cook the rice and you'll get some flavor out of it.

See if you can eliminate any other monthly expenses and spend more on food.

Get WIC or Food stamps.

Pancakes for breakfast every day.
Make a crock pot of soup or stew for the week.

contact welfare, sell something on Craig's list. nobody can live on 89$ a month. If you are just having a crunch this month, invest a buck in the Top Ramen Recipe book (100 recipes that are used by impoverished college students) and buy a case of it for this month.

Read the newspaper's inserts for the sales. I can often get 10 cans of something for $!0. Buy burger on sale. Stay away from frozen dinners. Buy what's on sale. Ramen is cheap, so is store brand mac& cheese. It's not Kraft, but it gets you through.
Shop wisely, make your own bread, learn how to make everything you can yourself! Trust me, been there, done that.
