Exactly. A bible in an unbeliever's world (not just an atheist's) is as meaningless as a check mate in a basketball game.

The Bible does raise more questions than give answers. Most of the New Testament seems to have come from a common source. If one reads the Gnostic Gospels and or the Dead Sea Scrolls, you get an entirely different view of what may have been going on.I think whoever penned the Bible wanted things portrayed a certain way, with no room for doubt or question.

It is impossible to prove anything using the Bible, unless both parties to the argument believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God. That's common sense. I do not feel the need to debate. I'll share my opinion when asked, but I don't think anyone in here is really looking to "change teams".

That's not entirely fair either. They CAN bring their Bibles. They just need more. For example, there is a lot of effort to 'prove' the New Testament with the Old Testament. So if they can find exterior proof of the things in the Old Testament, then they may use those things in proving the New Testament.
Indeed, it may be highly advantageous for them to bring their Bible because it provides the believer and myself a common basis to decide what needs proving and what may be accepted as axiomic.
They just need to remember that they cannot assume I accept the validity of that text in whole or in part, and will only believe parts that are proven -- and that proof of one part does not imply proof of the entire thing.

what's the point in debating God with an atheist? What is the point in debating whether or not someone else, some stranger who you've never seen before, who you will never meet, knows God, or thinks they know God, or says that God doesn't exsist?
i'm a christian and i don't really care that much if you are an atheist, as long as you are a good person. maybe that makes me a bad christian, but i just think that there is no point in trying to convince someone that God exsists...and there is no point in you trying to convince me that God doesn't exsist.
another note: if people really think that you can tell if a person is truly "intelligent" by something they typed out while bored at work on yahoo answers, then that seems ignorant to me. it's crap to even argue about this on a website...no one is going to change anyone's mind.

If someone doesn't believe the Bible, then you aren't going to prove your point with it. You have to base you logic on life experience, and not only what the Bible says. Atheists aren't going to come here for advice on God anyway, so basically no person is going to convince them. Only experiencing God will do that.

How about common sense arrived by science? Every single one of the identified 100 plus chemical elements involves an atomic structure with an intricate mathematical interrelationship of the elements - a definitive logical pattern.
For some of us, that is enough to conclude intelligent design. However, there are still those that will look at your photograph and conclude that humans indeed are the product of evolution from monkeys.

Uh oh! Ouch! Well, more intelligent or not, you as an athiest are lacking tact. I do feel sorry for you. Proof is in the Holy Spirit. There is no other way to know for sure. But if you are happy the way you live your life, that is fine. I think putting down others who are happy in their walk of life is unnecessary. I will say this... Wouldn't you rather take the chance then to find out after you died that Jesus really was the Son of God. You probably think you die and then there is nothing. I don't believe that but that is neither here not there whith you. But I would much rather go somewhere beautiful then rot in the ground or burn in hell. If you ask the Holy Spirit into your heart... then you will know as I know. It is more than unexplainable. no amount of words in The Holy Bible can exactly explain it to full human capacity. So am I intellegent? I believe I am. Are you? I believe you believe yourself to be. Intellegence comes from much knowledge. Get some knowledge in what you are talking about BEFORE putting down others.

Obviously you haven't heard of the Russian mathematician Ivan Panin who proved mathematically that the Bible was inspired by God to be copied down by men. In its original languages, there are arithmetical codes that defy all logical explanation. Read Cosmic Codes - Hidden Messages from The Edge of Eternity by Dr. Chuck Missler.
Panin's work was submitted to the Nobel Prize committee. Although he didn't win the prize they did make a public statement that his work proved beyond a doubt that the Bible (both Old and New Testaments), originated by Divine authorization.
Another book to read is "Handwriting of God - Signature of God" by Grant Jeffries.

I refer readers to my answer concerning science and religion. Religion is faith based. Faith exists elsewhere other than religion. For example, I have faith in my wife's fidelity. Science is an account of the natural world and not of matters of faith. Some atheists claim science over faith as truth. In reality, both are truth and exists. But, for any matters associated with any degree of faith in any subject or category, one must be willing to have that faith. I have faith in science and in God. Some have faith in one or the other. However, actually, the two can't be compared. It is the old saying of apples and oranges. Both exist and both are fruit but one can't determine what an apple is like by only experiencing oranges. Atheist have no business commenting on matters of religious faith. Likewise, ignorant people who have a religious faith but not a scientific basis have no business commenting on science. Like fruit, science and religion may cross paths at times. When they do, they don't conflict in nature. It is only the amateurs in both arenas that perpetuate arguments.

Until you have that life-changing experience - you will not believe. I had that experience and the only proof that I have is that I know I have Eternal Life and Heaven. I have the Holy Spirit within me that bears witness. As for proof - it is faith and faith alone. The Bible just confirms all of this to me. Sorry that is all I can say.
