Because it is very easy to be objective about other peoples problems. When dealing with our own problems, our emotions get involved whether we like it or not.

It's not that our minds are blank, we know what we need to do to solve our own problems, we just don't do it bc it's too hard. I can give people the best advice on how to get out of crappy situations, but yet, I'm always in a crappy situation.

Our minds are not blank, we just don't want to face what our mind is telling us, because usually it's in opposition to what we really "want" to do. Like dating some womanizing bum with no job. Our mind is screaming HE'S A BUM, MOVE ON. But he's sexy as hell and you "want" him so we ignore the warning sounds of our mind and so-called follow our hearts. It's lust.
But other people's problems are easy to figure out because we are not emotionally tied to them. We see clearly what the other person "should" do but when it comes to ourselves we see dimly through the glass.

As a third person, you look into the problem from all angles... But when you are trying to solve your own problems, you concentrate more on what you want and how you want things to be, than looking at both the positive and negative sides...

Awesome question. If I have any insight what-so-ever, I think its because we see the situation impartially and without any attached emotion. We may have had a similar experience or can relate somehow. We can offer advice based on what we know or think but when it comes to us, we need the reassurance and aren't always willing to accept the truth. Dunno...that's what I think...I'm here asking for advice and giving advice. Hope I could help out a bit.

Are you talking about me! (LOL!) But probably because its easier to look at something from the outside. When you are in front of in in a problem, you are blinded by it and its hard to deal with it efficiently. With other peoples problems we are not biased because we are not involved and that way we can give an honest and clean view of the situation.

I call it "the disease of familiarity"...
We are too close to our own lives, tangled, to see what is really going on. Most of the time anyway. We lose our objectivity.
People, polite people anyway, are rarely completely honest about others. We would never dream of telling someone exactly how messed up they are and in exactly what ways... and that makes it difficult for us to see how others really view us--making objectivity impossible.
Besides, it's easy to answer a question. Harder to unravel a life.

Our mind isn't blank when it comes to ourselves. We just shut it out and work with the heart.

I guess that when it comes to other people so much we don't worry about what will happen because it's not us that gets hurt, the other people get hurt.
I guess that is where that old saying came from: "Those who don't know teach".

It is a part of being humane. We need each other. I can give myself all the bad advice I want. I want to be educated myself.
