Hard to put a age limit on it. I'd say 12 or 13. or through grade school, and maybe in middle school.

This by the way is the most productive way to spank. If your going to give a spanking make it count. You will find you do less spanking when you take down pants and put them over you knee.
As a child I remember how loud these spanking were, it added more of a fear factor then a pain factor to the spanking. It made me try all the harder to follow the rules. As a result all my girls get spanked this way.

I think spanking should stop around age 7 or 8. I don't think it should be done bare bottomed at any age. That sounds creepy and seems like it would take away from the lesson you're trying to teach. I know I would just feel humiliated and violated and not care or think about what I did wrong anymore. My parents could certainly get the point across without taking our clothes off, so why is there a need to do that?

If that is the way you have been spanking--and it is working--you can't go back to spanking them over a covered bottom--that is kind of back peddling.

So--as long as you are spanking I think you pretty much have to keep with that method if that is how you are doing it.

One caveat--I don't think it is generally a very good idea for kids to be spanked bare bottom by a parent of the opposite gender after the age of 11 or so.

I don't believe in spanking. My parents spanked/slapped me until I was 15 and threatened to until I left for college. I understand that every parent has their own method, though. Spanking should only be used when words cannot be understood. If a 2 year old wanders into the road, they can't process the problem. While it may be unfair to hit at an age when they don't know why, for their own safety, they need to associate wandering into the street with pain. Circumstances like that are the only time I would condone spanking.

I believe in spanking but I am unsure about bare bottom spanking.I think that practice is almost completely dying out. When I was very small I can remember being spanked bare bottom but as I got older it was on my underwear and later just over my pants.

Well I think a child should stop being spanked when they are 10 years old. But with a bare-bottom, I think that's risky, don't you leave red marks or bruises? That's just my opinion. But when a child get to be 10 I think spanking is not the key. Grounding or taking things away are more age appropriate.

I have to agree with the bare bottom thing. I would say around 12 years old you should try some other methods, but hey if it's not broke don't fix it, if they still work keep doing them. relax people, its just a spanking were talking about here.
