I got a cut on the bottom of my tongue from my braces (although I don't have bottom braces yet -- not sure how I managed to do that with my top braces) and It's really painful. It also developed a bump on top of it. Is it dangerous and how do I get rid of it?

You should let your doctor know about it, but if that is not what you want, make sure you keep your mouth clean. I had braces too at one time in my life and it happened a lot, my mouth just had to get use to the braces. Listerine works, it may burn like hell, but it works. The peroxide thing works too, just make sure you do not swallow it and afterword, rinse, brush, and rinse again to make sure the peroxide is out. Also scraping your tongue may help to reduce some of the bacteria that could be harmful to the cut. But definetly ask your doctor.

Aren't braces so annoying?! I don't think your cut is dangerous, it just forms a bump when it's healing. I think you should see your orthodontist, but until then, try getting Oragel from a drugstore. it comes in a Q-tip form and numbs the pain. To prevent getting cut again, put some wax on the parts of your braces that stick out. Don't worry, you'll get used to them very soon. =)

I would say as long as it is not deep or continously bleeding you should be fine.
I don't eat hard candy often because nearly always cuts my tongue. I get the bump on the cut area as well.

Rinse your mouth out with peroxide. Don't swallow. It'll be gone within two days.
