ive been to cuba libre nice place.....
i guess what i'm looking for is more along the lines of the old italian restaurant with a live band, small dance floor and slow dancing.
im not even sure if such places exist outside of the movies but this is what the wife is looking for.

Suggestions:

- Portofino: Downtown Phila on Walnut. Ask about live music, though. Expensive, and not really old traditional, but great food and trendy cool

- La Collina: Bala Cynwyd. Very expensive. More traditional. Great food. Music only certain days. Ask before going

- Monte Carlo Living Room: South Street Phila. Expensive. Dancing on upper floor. A bit noisy, mainly during weekends. A milestone, but a bit overrated

- Fellini Cafe: Phila, 22nd and Walnut. Great atmosphere. Music yes, but I don't believe live. Check it out before going

- Chez Nicole: Bensalem. Don't get confused by the French name. It's not French cusine. They have music sometimes. The place looks more like what you have described. Call to know about bands. They may have discontinued live bands, other than private functions

Also, in South Philly there are a lot of old traditional Southern Italian restaurants. I don't know much about the dancing music to please the wife's wishes. But there are a lot of listings available also online. I would get the phone numbers and call all of them to find out about the music. In the Phila area it's very easy to find the cozy, movie-like, old-style Italian restaurant, but to mix the music spice is something you have to call about. Good luck!

What kind of dancing? There's all kinds of clubs between Philly, the shore and all around.

Something different though...Cuba Libre.
