not sure if anyone else has suggested this but if you fill up clear cola bottles with water and position round the garden, it frightens the cats as they think they have seen another cat! Same effect with mirrors but theses can be dangerous if you have kids or other pets. My cats HATE the smell of coffee so you could try sprinkling some granules round the garden. Sharp shingle/slate round the borders can also help as the cats don't like standing on it. I'm trying some sticks at the moment that you space round the garden (called professional cat repeller) made by Procter Bros as my cats poo in my own garden - There is a patch under my kitchen window that stinks but they are welcome to poo in the rest of the garden as it is easy to clean up!

I sympathise with you. Had this problem at my last house and tried everything people have suggested so far, including the ultra sound thing. Nothing worked. Even had spiky wire all around the fence tops - the damn things still got over and pooped. They don't scare at bottles filled with water, pretend cat silhouettes, aren't bothered by pepper, and stick two claws up to the ultra sound. Sorry but you have to get brutal. It's either get a dog - doesn't have to be big - a feisty little terrier would do the trick, or the BB gun. But they never do it when you're around! It is usually at night. We had a security light and I would wake up and see them crawling into my vegetable patch during the wee small hours for a crap. In the end I had to net my whole veg patch and weight the net down with dozens of bricks so they couldn't crawl under it. This time around (new house, new veg patch) I'm planning on both the netting method and the 'get a dog' idea. By the way, dogs get a lot of bad press about their toxic poop, but cat poop is every bit as dangerous for kids, and owners don't go round picking up after their bloody cats!!

If I am honest I have two cats and I tell all my neighbours to scare my cats away if they see them in the garden as I do the same you see if it is my cats then I don't mind them pooping in my garden but I go mad when it is another cat.
Not sure why but many people put bottles of water down, not sure what this does but from what I have been told it works when it comes to scaring cats.????

First of all, don't hurt the cat. He doesn't know any better. Your garden is like one huge litter box to him. He's only doing what comes natural to him. Second, you need to have a chat with his owner and ask him to keep his cat inside and warn him of the dangers of leaving his cat roam free....he could get hit by a car, people set out antifreeze to poison them,it could get attacked by a wild animal, etc. And yes, tell him what his cat's doing in your garden all though it doesn't sound like that big of a deal.

Try putting a litter pan/inexpensive dish pan from Dollar Store, in your garden with some dirt. When the cat uses it let your neighbors know that it is theirs to empty. Or put it at their front door with a note. That may be enough for the neighbors to take some action on their part to keep kitty off your property.
Another solution is to put a couple of boxes of moth balls in the garden. Leave them in the box as they are toxic. You may want to put the boxes in plastic bags to keep the rain out, but poke a couple of small holes in the bags so the smell gets out.

Put used tea bags in the garden, the tea bags are bio-degradable and will turn into compost over time, and best of all cats HATE the smell.
We had this problem with cats a few years ago that's what we did, the cats are no long doing their thing over our flowers.

You can get crystals from some garden centres which come out blue or green but eventually go transparent and look like gel but they have done the trick for me.
Other than that a sack, 3 bricks and a trip to the local canal can work wonders too.

There is somebody who found an alligator on another thread.
I made friends with the cat in the end. It was a bit of a delinquent cat, but aren't they all? This worked: the neighbours moved away and took the cat with them. (Now I get a different cat!)
Its name was not even Scraggy.

Have a word with your neighbor and tell them they will be getting it back over the fence if you sure its their cat.
I have heard eucalyptus oil on used tea bags is quiet good or you could try one of the electronic ones that send out high pitched sound waves that only the cat can here ,i have tried that one and it works on most cats and is harmless

Get some vitax stay of my garden but clean all the rest uo before you put it down, you can get some sensor water sprays that will frighten them off before the go and you can also get some things to put around your fence to stop them entering your garden
