She had a C-section while giving birth to my son. She didn't have it before. When we first noticed it she went to the Emergency Room of the same hospital and they said it was normal. Her grandpa also got staph infections every time that he went to that hospital. This hospital is famous for giving staph infections to patients and this one could kill my fiance and i am not willing to risk that. I don't know what to do.Is there anyone that can help.

Ask any doctor

"Do you consider the hospital a breeding ground of infectious diseases"

and they will answer

"Well thats where everybody with infectious diseases go, isn't it."

Hospitals are for the sick and dying. It only makes sense that it is a breeding ground for disease.

However, these other answer's advice to seek out a new hospital are definatly correct. While it is difficult to control cleanliness within a hospital, it is still possible. That is part of their job, in fact. So the fact that this hospital is proving to be a repeated problem should alert you to find help elsewere, if that is an option.

I reccomend that everyone go to the hospital as little as possible. There are definatly times when it is necessary, do not get me wrong, but you really do take a risk every time you walk in there.

Your post is not exactly clear but I am assuming she got an infection while at the hospital. You need to seek medical treatment away from there. However, unless you can document with actual cases that that hospital "is famous" for staph infections, you need to not say it. You could send a complaint to the local health department for starters but many hospitals have a bad and unjust reputation for infections or other problems based on rumor alone. Sounds like the family might need to learn better hygiene techniques as well.

an infection that is acquired in the hospital is called a nosocomial infection. It happens a lot and not just in one hospital. It can be due to many different reasons. Sometimes the person has a weak immune system and cannot always fight the bacteria when they come in contact with it. However, if you keep finding that many people come home with this particular infection, then maybe you should contact the local health department and make a complaint. I don't know why you say this could affect your wifes life. Most infections are not life threatening unless they are not diagnosed and treated. When a woman has a c-section she is automatically at increased risk for infection. the reason she had a c -section could be reason enough for her to have an infection. Most women have c- sections for failure to progress in labor, that alone is reason enough to be at risk for infection.

All hospitals have data listed with the county health department in your area concerning their staph infection rates. I suggest anyone going for surgery investigate a bit. What need concern you now is what strain of staph infection does your fiancee have , and what antibiotics it is resistant to. You need to make sure that the wound has been cultured and they know exactly which strain they are dealing with . Also demand an MRI of the abdomen and uterus because many serious staph infections are caused by sponges left in wounds (they are really hard to see when covered in blood and it's easy to loose count of them in surgery). If she has a run of the mill Staph infection than make sure she rests , eats well , and takes her antibiotics on schedule (and that they are the right ones for her particular infection) . If she shows signs of Sepsis (bacteria infection in blood ) call an ambulance immediately and go to another hospital. You can look up signs of Sepsis at Webmd.com.

By the way EVERY LIVING PERSON has Staph living on their skin , it's part of normal body flora. Due to the overuse of Antibiotics , however, we are turning these mild infections into SUPER INFECTIONS , which no antibiotic can kill (see MRSA and VRSA infections) . So if you are concerned about antibiotics and super infections than stop asking doctors for antibiotics unless your immune system is compromised. The human body is far more effective at dealing with these common types of infections than people are led to believe. The added benefits of no medications are 2 fold . Firstly your immune system becomes primed to deal with any infection it encounters because you are training it to activate it's self rapidly and secondly you have milder cases of the disease in the future = a healthier adult. Ask any person working in a hospital . For me , after 5 years in ER my immune system hunts squirrels in the backyard ! Exposure = Immunity .

Good luck

she may not have had the infection when she went to the hospital, but she could have already been carrying this strain of staphylococcus on her skin.

MRSA is still treatable with other antibiotics. vancomycin, zyvox, and bactrim to name a few. if you don't like the hospital, by all means, go to another one. but, keep in mind, all hospitals are having trouble with MRSA.

i still don't think you have a legal case- unless you can prove they are negligent in OR sanitation and sterilization procedure, which is really difficult to prove.

I doubt they told you MRSA is normal. Many people are carriers and it is getting more and more common. Is she on antibiotics? You need to take her to see a doctor. Good luck!
