During a Christmas Eve midnight service at our church, the organist was playing "Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring" during the prelude. There was a bad note on the pipe organ which, when played, issued a loud blast of air but no note came forth. This note was repeated at regular intervals. I had just come in from a long long drive to get home for Christmas and I was very tired. Every time that note was played, I got a little more tickled. It progressed until I was shaking with silent laughter and could not quit. I finally gained control only to look over at my 5 year old daughter who was peering aroung my wife looking at me with her eyes crossed. That got the whole thing started over again. Eventually, everybody in the church got tickled, including the minister and we all laughed hysterically for quite a while. Nobody knew what they were laughing at. After it had all died down the minister came into the pulpit and simply said, "AMEN!" It was a joyous Christmas Eve for many reasons.

There are many incidents, but one comes readily to mind. A pompous preacher put on quite a show with the quivering voice, jumping about, arm waving, etc. Often, he'd say something he evidently liked and look about the congregation to see if everyone appreciated his imagined wit. Once, when he did that, a man loudly passed gas in the back. He looked shocked and indignant for a moment, but then he continued as if nothing unusual had happened.

When my brother & I were kids my mom's great uncle died and we drove to the middle of no mans land in Iowa, USA - for the funeral. The service was held for him in an old church that had wooden pews and HUGE celings. Midway thru the long service my brother, who was 5 years old, farted. My cousins & I couldnt help but giggle. That made it all the funnier so he pushed out about 3 more farts. My mom was at the end of the pew, and my Anunt was next to her - they were way to far from him to do anything about it. We were all laughing, but my mom & aunt were about to pass out from embarrisment! I dont think we ever went back to that tiny town or that big chruch.

I was an acolyte in my country Methodist church, which meant I sat up front after lighting the candles, facing the congregation. I was 7 years old at the time. While I was sitting there, one of my baby teeth decided it was time to jump ship and came out of its socket. Everyone was watching me rather than paying attention to the minister as I tried to get my tooth out of my mouth and figure out how to get it home so the Tooth Fairy could come that night.

The speaker forgot to bring his bible up to the lectern.

Of course, it is laughable for a man of God to speak human philosophy rather than to direct attention to God's Word. All the meetings of Jehovah's Witnesses focus on reading and discussing the Bible and seeing how to apply it in one's life.

Nothing, we take our worship service very seriously. It is not a time for cutting up and acting foolishly. You have all the hours of the day, week, month, year to act up. When you come into the house of God you are to act decently, and orderly,,, if your congregation does not do this, then if you ask me your church is in for big trouble..We are paying our respect to the LORD for the sacrifice he made for us, and remembering it until he comes for his own.
