Hey lil miss know it all,

My parents did, and so did my neighborhood friends parents. I am sure this started a a metaphore for a clean mouth, then someone got the bright idea that it might teach a lesson.

Today, at home, I swear like a sailor. Guess it only has short term affects.

Yes I have, when my son was 4 he told me To F off. So I told him that he was not to talk to his mother that way and if he did he would have to wash the dirty words out of his mouth, to which he responded you wouldn't F ing dare { might i add his dad is a truck driver and does not always remember to turn the verbal filter on when he comes home} So I took him to that bathroom put a dab of dish soap on his tooth brush and did exactly what i said I would do. Know what he hasn't use the F word or any other { least not where I can hear him} since. He has however warned his father about what mommy does when you say those words.

yes and no, i do not 'wash' out their mouths. but instead let them hold the soap in their mouths with their teeth, that is if the infraction is a large one, on a smaller scale I have them lick the soap, and yes i find it highly effective for a potty mouth. needless to say i do not have to resort to this often.

p.s. I do not recommend hot sause, i can burn the childs mouth and you will be turned in to CPS. Were talking biting or licking the soap, not eating or chewing the soap.

It was common when I was growing up. My mom did it. Thankfully not that often. Kids back then weren't quite so exposed to foul language, so we were far less likely to use the sort of language that would induce this sort of response.

But as others have said, it's considered abuse. It can be dangerous. I'm not sure of specifics, but I belives there is a risk of choking. Soap isn't supposed to be injested.

My mom washed my mouth with liquid dish soap for cursing when I was around 7 or 8. It works cause I did not curse until around 15.

yes, i wash my daughter's mouth out with soap. It is very effective and she knows that if she uses bad language or back talks, then out comes the soap!

My parents put soap in my mouth numerous times. I did it to my 14 yr old niece not that long ago. She had an attitude going and told me to go to hell. She hasn't said another bad word since.

I'm not 19 and my dad did this to me once when I was like 8 or 9. He said he was gonna and I didn't believe him. I kept my teeth closed, so that is where it ended up going! lol, I couldn't get the taste out my mouth for like a day or so!!

Some people do. Funny story: we tried that with my little sister (a long time ago) and she started eating the soap, so I wouldn't recommend it.
