Almost anything can be used as a channel for hate and fear. Celebrity culture leads women (and men too) to fear that they're inadequately thin and makes people hate themselves. Advertising aims to make people insecure enough to spend money on things they don't need. Atheists often hate christians, as you'll see on practically any religious question on this site (often with good reason, admittedly), so it's not a religious problem per se.
Religion is very open to abuse, and certainly can be a channel for fear and hatred. But it can also be used to channel love and acceptance. Christianity for example, has the blood of the crusades on its hands, and even today is used to justify wars in various parts of the world. But it was also the driving force behind the end of slavery in America or ending child labour in the industrial revolution, and today in fighting for trade justice and the end of third world debt.

to a certain extent Religion is one of the three ways to gain control in a Culture and Society. therefore Religion can give a feeling of hate for another Religious Belief System which is not the same basic Belief System. when this happens there is generally conflict of some sort with one System trying to dominate the other. therefore fear of the other Belief System may in turn be felt as the stronger overcomes the weaker. there are some who believe they know what is best for everyone forgetting others have the right of free will to decide for themselves which Religion to follow.

Nope, religion is a channel for love and peace.
Those who are exhibiting hate and fear need to work harder on following the beliefs of their faith.

Religions have positive and negative sides. They can inspire deeds of great courage, generosity, and kindness, but they can also inspire acts of hate and fear. They speak of the brotherhood of man, but condemn anyone who thinks differently to "eternal torment." They extol the "Truth" yet teach that ignorance is a virtue.

Well, my Church of God coworker was just explaining to me that "Katrina" means "Cleansing" and that the hurricane cleansed New Orleans of all the "******* and criminals". This apparently is a fairly popular belief among the fundamentalists these days.
I don't see why anyone would call that hateful.

It's where people who are inadequate for life go to empower themselves by playing the victim and using "God" as a weapon for manipulation. And it's comments like this one right here that empower them. End of story.

Depends on what religion you're in and what beliefs you choose to uphold. Wish people would choose life rather than death and nonsense~
