Good question. This annoys me, too. I think it's either:
1) spaciness ("what should I have for dinner tonight...oh, look a bluebird!"),
2) lazy ("turn signal indicator...so heavy..."), or
3) arrogant ("I'll turn whereever I damn well please and you, driver behind me, aren't worthy of my attention or respect!")
I can forgive not signalling if no other cars are around, but otherwise it's just rude not to signal.

Here's a tip: ALWAYS follow at a safe distance, and it will not MATTER if the guy in front signals or not.
Haven't you ever had a situation where you realize the street you want to turn onto is suddenly 2 feet ahead and you have to turn quickly to make it?
If the guy behind you is following at a safe distance, no problem.
OH, sorry, no body does that these days.

Sometimes I wish cars could be equipped with an outer sign; you type your message while you're stopped, and then it lights up on the sign for other drivers to see. You could warn someone you think his lights must be out since his turn signal never came on.... Ah well. Sooner or later they do get pulled over. Just gotta pray they don't get in an accident first.

Lazy self centered idiots. This is one of my pet peeves. I get in fights all the time with family and friends about it. I think it rude as hell and shows that you have no regard for others. They tell me I over react and its no big deal, but since I drive all day and seem to be able to hit the turn signal switch with out any problem I can only guess that its a total lack of respect for others.

I think its either because they are too lazy or too stupid to know what signal lights are. I hate when people do this and when they leave their signal lights on and your thinking they are gonna turn and they just keep on going with no cares for other drivers.

My god, that would take too much time and attention away from really important tasks that need to be completed when driving:
- putting on eye makeup
- talking on the cell phone
- fighting with your passenger
- lipsyncing the words to Sexy Back
- cutting off the person that is signalling to move over a lane
I mean really... who has the time to be a corteous driver?

I've always said that turn signals are a luxury item that apparently few people can afford. Actually, using a turn signal is almost like “asking” for the permission to change lanes/turn- if you don’t use one you’re taking charge and doing what you want to do.

LAZY...my boyfriend always says how he is such an excellent driver, but he NEVER signals and gets alot of middle fingers. I always point it out, but he does not change. I don't understand it either. It is annoying and dangerous.

This agervates the hell out of me. I think people are either too busy talking on their cell phones, or they just don't care. That's something else that annoys me, cell phones. Either hang up the phone and drive, or pull over. An emergency is one thing but other wise you should'nt be on the phone while driving.

I hate that. I guess they believe you have esp and can read their minds. I hate it when someone does not turn off their turn signal so you have no idea what the hell they are wanting to do.
