I just posted this same thing a few days ago! I am taking my dog to the vet today. I called them and told them about the problem and they said to bring him in.
He licks everything all the time too. Especially our couches. He licks the carpet, himself, us, his toys, the furniture. It is so annoying and gross.
I will let you know what the vet says!
UPDATE: SO I WENT TO THE VET AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOTHING FOR MY DOG. SOMETIMES IT CAN BE DUE TO A WORM PROBLEM (HAVE TO DO A FECAL TEST TO RULE THAT OUT), A NUTRITION PROBLEM (POSSIBLY NEEDS SUPPLEMENTS TO ADD TO WHATEVER THE DOG IS MISSING IN THEIR DIET), THYROID PROBLEMS, OR BOREDOM (NOT ENOUGH EXERCISE). IN MY CASE, THEY BELIEVE IT IS OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE. HE HAS A GOOD DIET WITH SUPPLEMENTS THAT THEY PUT HIM ON WHEN HE WAS A PUPPY, THEY SAID HIS WEIGHT IS GOOD, EXERCISE IS GOOD, COAT IS GOOD (SHINY AND NOT DULL) AND NO WORMS OR THYROID PROBLEMS. If it still bothers you, I would call your vet and tell them the symptoms and what he eats, etc. and maybe they can recommend something for you. I only paid $20 for the appointment. They didn't do any tests except look him over, a fecal test, and listened to his heart and looked in his eyes and ears. What was the solution for my dog? Spray a bitter spray on the furniture (testing it first so it doesn't bleach the fabric). They said if he was destructive, they would recommend a behavior therapist but he isn't. Basically, no solution. Good luck!

hahaha!!!! I'm sorry Sofia, but that is hilarious!! The blankets too! Geez! I have to sleep on my back because if I am close to the edge, my Shar-Pei will come up and lick my face like a fat kid licking an ice cream cone!
The only thing I can suggest is a product called "Bitter Apple". Spray it on things the dog licks, and he will taste the bitterness and probably not lick that anymore. It worked with my dog...may be more difficult on your blankets though.
Good Luck!

One of the best things that you can teach a dog if the comand "OFF". It is different then down because down is "sit down" Off is used when your dog is touching, licking, or pawing at somwthing you do not want him to have. Start with treats. Sit on the floor with him with the treat at nose level and wait for him to grab at it. When he goes for it say NO OFF in a regular voice and gently boop him in the nose. Keep doing this until he (even for a second) holds back from the treat. Then say "take it" and let him have the treat. Give him lots of praise. Keep working with him on this for extended peroids of time. It doesn't usually take very long for a dog to get it. Then once he gets that down move it to other things, toys, the chicken bone you dropped in the kitchen, the cats, and licking. This will also help with chairs or beds or whatever that you don't want him up on. Just make sure you use off and not down. If you have any other questions let me know and i will see if i can help. Good luck

Have you ever watched the Dog WHisperer on National Geographic? Cesar Milan is a serious dog behavior specialist. They have had dogs on that show with those kinds of problems. Your dog's mental state is out of balance somewhere. I can't remember what he did to correct the problem. Is your dog getting enough exercise and mental stimulation, or just sitting in the house? Watch Dog Whisperer and get some tips. It comes on throughout the week, but I think it's designated night is Friday evenings. it seems a lot of times the same types of issues are taken care of with assertive leadership on the owner's part. Good luck. THat would drive me nuts too. that dog wouldn't be sleeping in my bed. yuck!

RE:
My dog licks everything all the time and it's making me crazy...what do I do?
He is making me nuts, even as I type this he walks up and licks my elbow when I'm on the computer. He sleeps in my bed and licks the blankets until they are soaked. I love him dearly but it's gross, and I can't stand it.

I have 2 yorkies and biy are they hyper! You can buy apple bitter spray at any Petsmart or Petco store. You spray that on surfaces you don't want them to lick,or nibble on and they avoid it because of the taste. It will take probably about 2 weeks to reaaly see a difference. Good Luck!

Personally... I don't love anything that much.
My cat is a siamese and they are known suckers, but at least he has the decency to suck his own leg...
Watch the dog whisperer... it is nerves (a nervous habit) and you have to change the dogs mindset by correcting the situation in the moment and re direct his energy into something else. Next time he does it... throw a ball or do the "finger" and stttt noise Cesar milian does? Maybe it'll work?

Keep telling him NO when he starts it. Poor thing. If it was just one thing, I could give you better advice. I hate to see the poor guy get constantly yelled at until he's broken, but I guess you have to stop him from doing it.
There's a clear solution for people who bite their nails to put on their fingers that tastes terrible. Maybe you could do something creative with that.

My little Yorkie used to do this...All the time..It's usually a nervous habit..The best bet is to lightly spray all the surfaces he licks with the bitter apple spray..I would not recommend yelling at him every time, he will be a nervous wreck in a day or two...Be gentle and patient and you will be able to at least curb this habit a little..
