I don't really have a problem with dogs themselves, it's irresponsible owners who don't bother cleaning up the excrement from their animals and let their badly disciplined mutts run amok, possibly attacking other animals and people in some cases, and when the media report on some of these cases, dogs can end up with some bad PR, even the most well looked after, that annoy me.
The Dangerous Dogs Act was rushed-in after reports in the media of attacks, and it's pretty damned flawed. All it really states that certain breeds have to be chiipped, which is rubbish. Pretty much any dog can be dangerous in the hands of irresponsible individuals. The law also seems to targe the dogs themseves, when surely, the owners should be facing substantial punishment too.
If you caught driving in a dangerous manner and drunk beyond belief, it's only reasonable to expect to be banned from driving for a long amount of time, so why do irresponsible dog owners seemingly get off lightly?
Dogs can be great pets, but they can also be a nuisence, or even a danger, if not trained or controlled properly.

Read the case of the baby who got mauled to death in Leicester and you might start to understand.
The Dangerous Dogs Act was passed in 1991 after a wave of similar attacks so that such dogs were put on leads. Most owners are responsible but in my street there is still a considerable uncollected amount of their waste.
They also howl if they are left inside. When I was studying last year I had to leave the house as next door ended up going to the pub most afternoons and leaving his dog inside.
Cats don't howl or maul babies though, neither do hamsters or rabbits.

Its all due to experience in childhood.
You cannot form an emotion until you have experienced it first.
Maybe they had a bad encounter with a specific animal when they were young and that is where the hate or dislike comes from. These can then turn into phobias and fears if the person experiences other traumatic events.

Well, that's a loaded question. There are MANY reasons for people to hate animals, but mostly it is misinformation mixed with fear. This is where breed-specific legislation stems from. Not all pit bulls are bad, but almost all bad dogs in the media are pit bulls. There are certain cultures where animals are simply nuisance animals, and are treated like cattle, to be slaughtered for food. Other cultures revere animals as Gods, and treat them accordingly. Most of the world is stuck somewhere in between, with individuals swaying towards or away from one culture's beliefs.

Of course, a lot of factors can be involved - anything from being bit at a young age to the death of a beloved pet during childhood. But I think many people dislike animals when they're treated as humans, rather than pets. Animals can cause a lot of odor and destruction when kept indoors, not to mention noise. Some people like outdoor animals but dislike animals kept indoors, as a result. If you're encountering a person who shows cruelty to animals, versus simply dislike, my recommendation is to discuss the problem with them, and then to seek legal help if you feel your pet(s) is/are being threatened. Best of luck!

Its down to human psychology. A dog becomes a symbol; for some people a symbol of fear, dirt and disease; for others a symbol of heroism, unconditional love and fidelity.
Dogs are none of those things; they are just dogs. We can love them warts and all without rose tinted spectacles. We can use them to act out our hatred and mistrust of other people. Or we can abuse them.
What we say about them and do to them says more about us than it does about them.
Cats and horses receive the same treatment - adored or abused.

I do not hate dogs. I am sick and tired and fed up with
1) Cleaning the dog's muck of my bicycle and shoes
2) Fed up with the constant yapping of the dogs
3) Disgusted by the attitude of dog owners in the countryside
4) Appalled at the size of some of the dogs led of the lead in the vicinity of people
5) Annoyed at the accidents dogs cause
I want areas where dogs do not go.
Dogs are basically unsociable unless trained to be sociable.
Some people are to.
To say people "just hate dogs" is a cop out by dog owners because they know fully well the nusiance they cause to other people.

I was wondering about that myself when I read about the evil b'stards who thew that poor dog from the tower block for fun. WHY?
Some countries/cultures consider dogs dirty and cannot understand why anyone would want to keep one in their home. Other people have been frightened by a dog as a kid and have a phobia. Dogs are only dangerous if they have been ill treated, neglected or badly trained.

It's sad that some people take out their frustrations, anger, or worse, their sexual angst on creatures who can't stand up for themselves. These people are murderers in the making. How anyone can cause harm to an animal is beyond sick! They should be locked up. They are useless individuals who feel they have no control in their lives that they have to overpower an animal to satisfy something missing in their sick, sad lives. I think all children should be brought up in a household with a pet, it teaches kids how to love and respect and be responsible for other creatures.
