the best way is to do physical excercise outside. Go for a long walk, jog or a hike. Outdoor activity releases your stress and makes you physically tired. Nothing better to fall asleep!

Some things you should avoid:
-- Caffeine, nicotine, or large meals after 3:00 p.m.
-- Working out within an hour of bedtime (after work is OK)
-- Watching TV right before bed
-- Anything with sugar/corn syrup within two hours of bedtime
Some things that might help before bed:
-- Listening to a meditation or hypnosis CD
-- Lowering the lights in the house an hour before bedtime
-- A cup of decaffeinated chamomile tea
-- A small glass of red wine
-- Taking valerian root, melatonin, and/or holy basil extract
-- Benadryl if you're having trouble sleeping
-- Unisom if you anticipate a REALLY bad night
If you wake up several times during the night and feel like you never really get a good night's sleep, you may have sleep apnea. It can be serious, but it's very treatable. Talk to your doctor about a sleep study if you think you might have it.

honestly their can be all kind of issues going on in your life.
1st if your taking any kind of medication some will cause insomnia.
2nd try not too eat so late in the evening , sugar and carb will keep you wound up.
3rd people say to exercise but some type of activity ,will help burn off excessive energy in your system, but when your tired from not getting enough sleep , then your too tired to exercise
4Th is their stress or are your worrying allot.
5Th take a Tylenol pm they work great
I was having the same problem trying to get a good nite sleep, it seem that even if i did sleep 7hr i was still tired. wake up easily
because of it, i was experiencing , mild depression, fatigue, and being cranky.
what i did was go on a diet, Ive been on it for about three weeks
Ive lost 8lb, i sleep real good at nite , am able to go to bed and my mind isn't racing,
am able to get out of bed before i really need to , and i feel refresh, and mostly happy all day

First go get a checkup to rule out anything organic going on - such as sleep apnea, among other things.
Then, try to wind down and establish a before bed routine. Don't go work out right before you go to bed - do that at least 4 hours before bed, longer if possible.
This is what works for me: Dim the lights in whatever room you're in - even if you're just watching TV, for an hour or so before bed. This will start to clue your body into the fact that it's bedtime.

Don't
-Read or sit in bed during the day. Your body should recognize your bed as a place of sleep
-Excercise right before you sleep, this will get your heart pumping, not good for sleeping
- Have bright lights on our the T.V on loud
-Eat a heavy meal before you sleep
Do
-Have a before bed routine, even if this seems babyish
-Eat a light snack of milk and toast
-Read a light story if you cant sleep
-lie in bed and slowly tense your body, then gradually relax each part of your body, starting with your toes anfd working your way up.

Could be due to a number of things, best thing is to consult a pulmonary doctor and have a sleep study scheduled. You may have mini arousals all night that doesnt allow you to get into a deep sleep, you may have hyponeas or apneas that affect your sleep.

When you get ready to go to sleep, turn off all the lights and anything that makes noise like the television or radio. This stuff can distract your sleep.
