I am not a fan of medication for sore joints as they tend to mask the pain without helping the cause. If there is swelling, any medication that helps with inflamation with be good, however ice works just as well. If it just hurts after you have played, ice your knee for10-20 minutes. You should also consider finding out why it is sore. Could be the shoes you wear when playing, could be a muscle imbalance, could be a ligament strain, could be arthritis, but not likely. Suggest seeing a physiotherapist to diagnose the cause then you can work on making the pain go away through treating the problem.

any inflammatory pills, Advil and stuff like that unless you go to an athletic therapist or family physician who can then prescribe you something else. You will not prevent it anymore, you are already experiencing pain and you are in sports that put a lot of stress on your knees so this will be an ongoing problem unless you quit and take up a sport where you are not upright and on your feet. You can only do maintenance from this time forward.

i have had arthritis in my knee since 18 months old and asprin is the #1 thing i use. I know you didnt want me to say that but i actually had to go to the doctor and he prescribed me a 975mg asprin. It works wonders. You may want to see the doctor because you may have injured it and not known.
