It's normal to feel that way. I still, occasionally, think I feel my Toby (17 when he died) jump onto my bed. It's as bad as losing a child or friend, maybe more so, because the kit belonged with you. If you're strong enough, or just want to try, I'd recommend visiting www.rainbowbridge.com. If you don't know the rainbow bridge story, it's that, when a pet dies, it goes to the rainbow bridge to wait for you (ok, I'm bawling now) and waits till it sees you coming, then you all go on together. rainbowbridge.com is a memorial page for your darling. Time will help. Another cat helps too, but not too soon or you may resent him. When my baby Robin died of feluk in the 80s, I was given a new cat at the same time I was told he'd died. I resented that cat till I found him a new home. Couldn't help it. Good luck, cat lover, and be strong.

If you are like me, it is because you feel like they are part of your family. And they are also your companion and friend. Animals are sometimes more loyal than humans. I am very sorry for your loss. I can tell you this do not try to replace your cat right away. It is not the same and it can be harder to bind with the new animal.
I know this from experience. Especially after 19 years. But you could also concentrate your emotions on all the years, and good times you had. That might help you through.

Your cat was a major part of your life . You are feeling the same as if you lost a family member, because the reality is you have .Believe it or not but you are going through mourning . You feel empty because your best friend is gone. There is nothing wrong with that . You now must decide if you want to get another pet to love to take his or her place. If you do ,I guarantee you within no time you will be feeling just fine. Good Luck !

We always have quite a few cats and when we loose one it is certainly like loosing a member of the family and each and everyone is different and uniqe. We lost two that were around 20 years old. We got them when my parner's mother passed away. I nursed them for weeks till I finally faced that nothing could be done. Then my Danny became ill with that bladder thing male cats get. He was at the vets for a week and then we took him home and got these pills that were $10 a pop and I held him and held him. A couple of times a would see is old spark
but then I knew it was too late and nothing could be done. Danny was and will always be my favorite and his life was short.
Danny was the worse kitten anyone ever knew our neighbors were afraid of him and he dertroyed everthing. We are big animal lovers but were almost tempted to dump him at the shelter. Then he just became the most enchanting guy. But actually still a demon. We just got used to him. I could holler at him all day like a toddler. But in many ways he was like a dog and if I got real mad at him he would cowl under the table like a dog. And loved kids and didn't care if they held him upsidedown. Never hid from anyone. And though he was affectioniate he didn't cuddle. Except when I was very ill. He would lay tightly against me and stroke me. I miss him. Someone after that needed someone to take a sister and brother because she was severly allergic.
I figured two cats it would take to repace him {not that anyone could} yet gradually the young male must have Danny's spirit guiding him because he became as lovable and pesty as Danny.
We actually had to child proof wiring. He is often in my arms when I am on the computer or phone. Merlot is a pest like Danny but looking at his picture still brings tears to my eyes.
One thing I always tell myself that if they are loved their lives may be short but sweet. Good Luck Get Two More Cats. Yea make them different looking. I almost adopted a cat that looks like Danny I stopped because he would"t be Danny.

you feel alone cos you hd a cat for 19 years of your life it wasn't just a cat its like a child to you and you will feel a gap missing now its gone, there's nothing wrong with feeling the emotions of grief even though its a cat, 19 years is a long time, you'll feel like that for a while but things will soon look up.

19 years is a long time. I had a cat for a long time too that I recently lost. I know exactly how you are feeling and unfortunately, time is your only friend. Good luck, and I'm so sorry you lost your cat. Getting another helped me. And getting two more was even a better idea.

I had a cat from 3rd grade until university. I cried for 2 weeks straight after he got sick and had to put him down. I just recently got a cat from the SPCA a couple months ago, which is 5 or 6 years later... You will heal, you had it for a long time.

Your answer is in your question.
Have you thought about a support group? You need to go through the grieving process, step by step. Talking helps, but be careful who you tell, 'cause a lot of people think it's dumb to grieve over an animal. They don't understand that we animal-lovers love our pets as we do our children...they are our family members too!
...19 yrs., what a long and wonderful life you two had together!

My Sidney and I did too. I have a picture of him, hanging on the wall, and his ashes are on the shelf of my mantle....but I still grieve....that's been over 20 years ago. We keep them 'alive' with our memories.
You'll know when it's time to get another, but when you do, don't compare them....it doesn't work; I know, 'cause I did.
All dogs and cats go to heaven.

19 years is a long time. Your cat was your companion, your friend, not just your pet. Be strong and maybe after some time a new pet will make you happy.
