your doby should have already started to fill out by 9 months old . he should already be close to his adult weight. if hes not have your vet check him just to be sure nothing is wrong . he is still a puppy so he should always have food and water down. the best food that i have found that bulks them up with enough calories is the purina pro plan giant breed puppy formula .

Generally, large breed dogs are not fully mature until 2 years of age. The first year they "grow up" and the second year they "grow out". Many breeds, including Dobies, German Shepherd Dogs, and especially Mastiffs, go through phases where they don't look like their own breed. All dogs go through the "gangly" stage, where their legs look far too long and skinny for them to be a purebred. Weight gain in puppies can be achieved by placing him on an all-natural, high-calorie, high-fat diet designed for high-energy working dogs. However, consult your veterinarian first before making these changes to rule out any parasitic or chemical reason for the lack of weight gain.

I have had Doberman's and Great Danes for years and both breeds tend to have that "skinny" look until around a year or so of age. As long as the vet has checked him over and says he's healthy then I wouldn't worry. Just make sure he's getting a good quality, healthy diet and lots of love. You'll see that he soon fills out just perfectly.

He is probably in his gangly stage right now. They all go through this! He probably looks pretty funny right now, but he will grow out of it. Many Dobes do not finish growing until they are 18 months or even two years. Usually the longer it takes them to mature, the bigger they will be.
Make sure he is on a good quality diet, either puppy food for large breeds or adult food for "performance" dogs is good. Your vet can help you there. If his coat is rough looking, then there is probably an under lying problem(parasites, missing nutrients, etc.) but normally, if he has a smooth sleek coat, he is doing well, and you just have to wait for him to grow!

hi, I definatley dont recommend satin balls. I do recommend etting special dog food to help him gain weight and strength. There are some very good ones out there. Just make sure you ask a vet the best one for your situation. Also, when changing foods do it gradually so it doesnt upset the dogs stomach. Good luck!

Most large breed dogs when young look like their underwieght. I wouldnt worry about him gaining weight, it will happen in due time. If you want to get him to gain weight, increase the amount of food you give him or try to find a food for him that has lots of calories.

aren't dobies pretty much a "narrow" breed? I wouldn't think he would fill out too much. it also depends on his genes. if you got him from a good breeder he should turn up just fine. did you see the parents? they are usually a good indication of what your pup is going to look like when he reaches maturity. if it is a genetic issues, chances are there is nothing you can do to "fill him out". take him to the vet and make sure nothing is wrong with him.

9 months is too young for a dobie to fill out.
say no to satinballs.period.
Give him a healthy diet, dont overfeed, and give him a lot of excercise for healthy development of muscles and bones.
They are full of energy, they bounce off the walls.I cant stress the importance of excercise.
Your dobie will be okay in just over a year.

I would take him to the vet and make sure he doesn't have worms, sometimes when a dog has worms, that keeps them from gaining weight as they should. If he is worm free, make sure that you're feeding him enough, and that he is on a good quality puppy food. Good luck!
