Im 26 and I've been voting for the presidental election twice ever since i am allowed to vote. I live in California and what i've noticed is that the votes for big states doesnt really count because of the Electoral votes for the small states. If a president can win the Popular vote but still lose the election, why should i even bother voting when the vote for my states doesnt count? Even if my state voted for some guy, it doesnt really matter does it? New York and California are the most irrelevant states in terms of voting purposes i have ever seen just because most american live in those states. Voting is great if you get your voice heard but the past two presidentual elections, it seems like the election is fixed. And if the Pupular vote doesnt count, why have it.

You bring up a good point. The reason we don't use the popular vote is that the candidates would be spending all their time where the large populations live. Since the issues for those people differers from the issues of the general population, we get a better cross section the other way.

Your vote counts as much as anyone Else's vote. I know there is plenty of monkeying around with absentee votes from the graveyard, precinct management tricks, and the like but you still have as much influence as me. And that is how it should be.

It's not often that the electoral college doesn't jive with the popular vote (just twice as far as I know). Democracy isn't perfect. Like Winston Churchill said, "Democracy is the worst form of government in the world....... except for all the others.".

Buck up, if you want more influence, we are a government of the people. Work for a candidate that you like, write your representatives, actively attend your party caucuses, or whatever.
Get involved.

It is important to show up and vote. If you don't then you've given up before the game. At least if there are lines and lines of voters at the polls in a precinct, it brings a little sunshine onto the situation and makes any cheating less easy to hide. Vote.

actually everyone thinks that way but your vote does count, it is your responsibility and by going to vote you can than complain about politics and everything but if you don`t vote you have no right to complain about things that are happening because you had a chance to change things (or at least try to) but you didn`t so >keep your mouth shut<...and that is not right....people were suffering in the past because they didn`t have the chance\right to vote...
...it is really so damn hard to get to vote!?!

Actually most people feel that NY and CA are the most important states to get, and that the smaller states get ignored most of the time.
