He and Jackson Pollock could be given the title "The Fathers of Contemporary Art). Warhol revolutionized art and created something that is so very popular (hence the name Pop Art). Pop Artists believed that anybody can be an artist. They opened the doors to all these aspiring artists to be brave enough to take a step forward and celebrate their artistic-wannabe hobby. Warhol's works were very expressionistic; his "Marilyn" series symbolized how much actors and actresses have become nothing but a product on a shelf in your nearby grocery store or shop. His love of commercialism made him create those Soup Bottle series, and those Coca-Cola ones too, which was nothing but part of the popular culture back then in the 60s and the 70s. One thing I could use to describe Warhol is: Creative.

I wasn't a Warhol fan until I saw a documentary on him recently on PBS. I think his greatest contribution to modern art was that of making it accessible to the common person on the streets. We can all relate to pictures of Elvis or Campbell Soup Cans or Marilyn Monroe.

If you have to ask,,,you don't truly GET IT.

Being recognized for his "talent" was never an issue for him, although he was.

Very likely this Q also belongs in the Philosophy category, since that was his major goal..

The SOUP CAN,,,as a reference point wasn't "Art" but it most certainly was a Message.

I like the NYC 'scene' that he created, but I think his art was mainly creative theft.

He was meant to draw comic strips and commercial ads. He knew it, too.
