I wasn't sure if they didn't use the word in America or this person was just a bit dim! Please enlighten me! (I'm from the UK)

no one in the US uses that. what exactly does that mean?

No. The only reason I knew the word was from watching British TV shows such as Keeping Up Appearances. I actually thought a lorry was a bus but now I read the definition and it's a a large truck designed to carry heavy loads; usually without sides or a a large low horse-drawn wagon without sides. I guess we would just call it a truck and a trailer.

Here are some English & American words for the same things: lorry & truck, bonnet & hood, spanner & wrench, vest & T-shirt, waistcoat (or weskit) & vest, chips & French fries, etc. There was a bird called a lorry in Lewis Carrol's "Alice In Wonderland".

In USA they say Truck not Lorry. They probably never heard the word before.

No Americans and Canadians for that matter do not use the word Lorry we use the word truck.

I am sure they have a friend or sister named Lorry but no the word lorry is not used. Atleast not around me and I am American. I don't even know what it is. Enlighten us on the meaning please.

The americans I ever spoke to, never knew what a lorry was.

But they knew what a truck and a tractor trailer was.

Lorry is a british usage.

born and raised in the US, and I never heard the word Lorry, unless a person's name.

Americans say "truck". One of the meanings of the word is a small wheel.
