No offense, but timeouts are probably the most ridiculous way of punishment. LoL, to actually think that a timeout does any good is absurd. If i were to be put in timeout (which happened by other ppl rather than my parents) I would have just sat there and laughed and forgotten about it in 5 minutes.
Fear is the greatest motivator there is. Fear teaches you a lesson quicker than anything else in this world. Think about it, how many more times does a young child touch a hot stove after the initial burn? They dont, they learned if I do that it hurts so im not gonna do it anymore. Timeouts dont teach anything, its just a "break". Fear, however that may be, is the best way to discipline.

I ALWAYS use positive discipline(if someone is interested in,there are a lot of books which explain this method of discipline).I never tolarate violence(slapping, spanking, yelling, beating, etc). If I did, what model behavior would my children receive?!

My daughter will be 2 in December. When she does something that is just naughty, i will tell her it is not ok to (insert whatever she is doing wrong here) and redirect her attention to something that is permitted. If she does something that could potentially be dangerous (ex: climbing onto the dining room table, standing in her high chair, etc) she gets to stand in the corner. I like the rule one minute per age. So 1 year old 1 minute time out when she turns 2 it will be 2 minutes and so on.

We use time out / taking away of special toys ect... We have two 4 year olds a 12 year old and a 15 year old. The two older, I can't remember the last time they were grounded...??? The two little ones, we only use time outs / taking away special toys / privileges..etc.
