Sometimes I have to login again and sometimes I can just reopen window and my session is still there. My antivirus (Norton) is up to date and appears to be working properly with regular auto scans.

I'm assuming you are using a web mail. Try upgrading or reinstalling your browser. If you are not already, try installing and using FireFox.

You might want to check on how you are handling your connection.

Check under options and see if you're set up to disconnect after sending email. That is an option for dial-up.
