Norton recently found a huge hole in there system. If I were you, I'd use more than one program anyway. New corporate version is supposed to be improved.

Relying on just one can leave out certain areas because not all of them cover everything.

Encryption, virus scanners, malware scanners, firewalls..

Get them all.

Always use a personal firewall. (My instructor just said that to the class, ironically enough) Here is what he is putting on the board.

1. Firewall
2. Anti-Virus software (run in background and keep current)
3. Windows Update (run regularly)
4. Use alternate 3rd party software and monitoring tools
5. Don't use Internet Explorer. Use less-popular web browsers.
6. Don't allow ActiveX
7. Use web-based e-mail. POP3 E-mail is un-encrypted

I have been using Norton Internet Security with Anti virus for a year now. It works fine. I haven't had a single problem.

Norton Antivirus used to be very good, however nowadays it does seem as able to get rid of, or even detect, viruses as it used to be.

Couple that with the fact that it slows down EVERYTHING you do on your computer, and the scans are exceptionally slow, plus slow down your computer even more, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice of antivirus now.

Out of the free ones, the one I've found best is AVG. It updates itself very quickly and easily every day, so you're always kept up to date with the latest definition files. The scans run quickly and don't slow your computer down too much, plus the program itself doesn't slow your computer down in general to any noticeable amount.

If you just bought Norton, you can always use it until the license runs out, and you can quite happily run AVG on the same computer at the same time. However, when you can, I'd uninstall Norton, and just use AVG. You will notice the speed increase, especially when you first log in to your computer!

There's always going to be a new better software after buying the other. But yes Norton Virus is one of the best and popular too so I wouldn't worry about other brands.

The question you are asking is too subjective. There are those who love it and those who hate it.
The best Anti-Virus is one that you understand how to use and keep updated. If that happens to be Norton then great. If not then it is your decision whether or not to change. All Anti-virus software does the same thing.

norton on my pc is grand, and i have the firewall running too, no problems at all so if its laggin up ur pc then ur pc probably needs more ram (or its crap) or its clogged up with junk cos the C: hard disk isnt partitioned away from everything else also with system restore it changes the sysrestore file EVERYTIME you do somthing that alters the contents of ur monitered drives.
macafee is a good one too and it has built in spyware destroyers as well.

as a rule of thumb i dont buy pre built pc's cos u have to get them to partition the hdd which makes it more expensive, it is an easy operation to do, and i also never install programs that arnt anything to do with windows on the C: drive (ie i designate C: as windows) ur C: Drive shud only have critical files on it or ur system lags like s**t (take my word for it cos it happens ive had to help somone fix it on their pc and it needed a full re-install cos to partition the hdd u have to "invalidate" the whole disk)

I've used norton since 2002 and it has served me well with very few problems along the way. It also comes with built in firewall protection as well .There are cheaper ones, there are even free one's out there but i'm a great believer that you get nothing for nothing and a free one cant be that good..

norton no good , it hampers up your comp performance and competes with mcafee at the cost of your comp.

norton fix tools are ok
mcafee AVERT stinger is ok
trendmicro scan is ok
above three all free

among the not-free full progs panda AV stands out. close to it are trendmicro pccillin and kaspersky.

but if u ask me they all look the same just use free tools and free anti spyware software like adaware and scanspyware to clean the problem.

other free AVs: NOD32 , AVG , AVAST

not sure about sygate firewall free or not

free anti spyware: adaware , hijackthis , cwsshredder ,ccleaner.

Norton puts its tendrils all over your software & so if Norton goes belly up it can take your PC with it.

Try AVG & the other software mentioned by the others. Most of it can be got either from www.download.com or on the DVD that comes with most PC mags.

of course, its the best virus protection out there! all other ones don't work at all...because its a waste of money getting something else when you could get the norton virus!!!
