I have the Whilrpool Duet Sport washer and dryer and it says to use the HE detergent? Is this really necessary? Can it really ruin my new washer? If so, how?

No, you don't need to use the special detergent. I also have a front load Whirlpool Duet and have never used the HE detergent. You just need to use 1/3 the amount recommended of normal detergent. If you use too much detergent, it will just stop because of too many suds in the lines. Then you will have to wait until the bubbles all pop and rewash your clothes. You also only have to use 1/3 fabric softener & bleach as well...defininately a money saver!

I have had several front loaders and I was told on the first one that I should use 1/2 the amount of detergent. My last washer lasted 14 yrs before the bearings went out. I fill my bottle 1/2 watr and 1/2 detergent. Twice the wash for half the money.

Yes as regular makes too many suds. If you must use regular use half as much as you would in a top loader.
