Hahaha that's funny!

Oh... your serious?

OK... not so funny!

Actually, I just re-read the question, and I think if you reworded it, you wouldn't be getting the responses you are.
I think you are confusing Christian women with western women. Not all western women are christian.

Also these "innocent Muslim ladies" have made a choice in life based on faith. Yes, of course it looks like barbaric treatment to outsiders, and I don't understand it, but it is still a choice. Of course, when you suffer from a millennia of oppression at the hands of a so called religion, it may not be much of a choice... more of a sentence.

My point? I've lost track of what my point is.

I think it has to do with the women themselves. Yes, for many Christians and Muslim women our faith is a very important part of us, but it does not define us. Plus, many times Christianity and western culture are mixed up together. I think the best lady is someone who knows who they are and what they believe regardless of which "religion" they're labeled with. Plus, Christian stylish is not the same as middle eastern/Muslim style and there are good reasons behind their garb. It's not the outer appearance that defines a woman. The reason (or the goal) behind the complete covering is that they will not be judged by their outward beauty but rather their inward. That's not how we see it in western culture, but that was the original intent. Also, it's usually more the Male's in the family/community that define the amount of oppression that occurs.

I am a Christian and I have to admit that I actually like how muslim women cover themselves. I don't know if they appreciate it or not, but by doing that they aren't likely to be bombarded by men out there who rudely comment on getting into someone's pants. I really see it as a great protection against obsene things. But, I do see how it can be a hinderance especially when it's extremely HOT outside and black is the color for them and they must cover up every inch.

those living in countries like Australia etc should JUST START STICKING UP FOR THEMSELVES & if their husbands are violent etc they need to do what Aussie women do go to the police etc.
Its about time they all did that all over the world other wise they will stay living in the dark ages for ever.
in the 50s & 60s Afganastan was a city like brisbane & women dressed the same way as australian women & went out to places by themselves etc & the woman hater bin laden took over with his band of men,& terrorised the poor women,a few hundred years back the English etc treated women with no respect. It was in their law they could beat a woman with a stick no thicker than a thumb.so I say its all up to the women to start changing NOW

Muslim women suffer silent opression just because of that...they are OPRESSED. They are not opressing themselves, others are doing it to them. Also, there is a risk of being put to death if they do not comply, and some believe that based on their religious texts that these women are incapable of rational thought and are therefore less of a human. If you knew that if you spoke up for your rights and you'd be divorced, shamed, possibly raped, killed, etc., you'd stay silent too.

Look into organizations that are working to free and help educate these women. Double-check their credibility with the governent before donating--it may be a scam.

Logic Police Citation:
"You have been found in violation of attempting to appear intelligent and quite obviously failing miserably. Please try to think more with your brain and less with your a.s.s, in the future. Future penalties will incur the wrath of those of greater intelligence than yourself, of which there are plenty. Have a nice day."
