I heard bad things about the littermaid (poo gets stuck, rake won't stop, ect, ect) so I got the Stylette Littersweep Ultra from Petsmart. I love it. It was $80 (cheaper than the littermaid) and you can purchase attachments for it. For $10 more I got a dome cover for privacy. The box is round and the tray spins while the arm (with an actual scooper) scoops and dumps. A little stick on the side makes sure nothing gets stuck around the edges. It has sensors and waits 30 mins after kitty steps out to scoop. That way, the poo is solid and doesn't get stuck. The dome cover has a carbon filter and you can't smell a thing. Before it scoops, it starts and then stops to let kitty know it's about to begin. If it senses kitty, the 30 minutes starts over. You can push the button and make it scoop whenever you want. I lOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT becase I just toss the baggie and put in a new one!! My cat likes it too because her box is always clean.

We have three cats and two littermaids. We keep them in the garage with a cat door from the house. They work very well. You do have to empty them. Usually we just empty the little plastic container and put it back in. It costs less than putting in a new plastic container each time.

I haven't heard good things about the self-cleaning litter boxes. The number one complaint seems to be the rakes getting clogged with litter (since you HAVE to use the clumping litter with them). I read some reviewers who were happy because all they had to do was clean the rakes regularly, other people found this to be a pain. Honestly, I'd rather scoop the poop and pee and put it in a bag then try to wash the clumpy crap off of the rakes.

Just to go websites like PetSmart and Epinions.com to read consumer reviews, then make the decision based on your personal needs and preferences. Good luck.

I don't think it is worth it. It's a lot of money. The rake clogs up. Some cats refuse to use it (the automatic rake scares them). The one my mom bought broke after a few months.

My suggestion, try using Feline Pine. I like it a lot better than clumping litter/regular litter. It smells better and is better for the environment. Also if you are so inclined you can use it as fertilizer for your garden (I don't, but whatever floats your boat).

We have 2 of the Litter maid mega deluxe models, since we have 3 cats and I LOVE them. If you put bags in the receptacle, you can just change the bags and do not have to keep changing the plastic soiled litter box.

Do not waste your money on Littermaid! It's an expensive piece of crap. I bought one and returned it by the next week. My cats used it, but it didn't do what it said it would do. Don't waste your money!

I had one years ago for my cats. One was a kitten and liked to play in it. I thought it was going to eat him because the little rake thingy didn't stop! Personally I thought it was a big pain in the a** and not worth $180 + tax!!!! Go buy a new pair of jeans and get your cat a new toy.

not worth it

most cat sickness show up in stool changes so if you are not changing the litter your cat could be sick for a long time without you knowing it...

feeding a better food (all from grocery are crap - too much filler) will mean less poops and less odor in poops so cleaning the box is no big deal - you can even use 2 boxes if you prefer.. but self cleaning boxes are really a scam

not worth the money. I've heard many many stories of cats that get scared of it and never want to use it so their owners have get another regular litter box anyway. Personally, I wouldn't spend money on it. it's a neat idea though, just not practical.
