That doesn't even sound good to me! I'm a fairly picky eater as well and will give this advice... if you use vinegar, don't tell your picky family or they may turn their nose up at it before even trying... I know I would!

I sometimes use a red wine vinegar, or a rice vinegar, depends on what I'm making with it. I use real cream, and real butter every time I make mashed potatoes. I don't suggest using white vinegar, because that can be too over-whelming. Vinegar is really misunderstood, when used properly it can add a lot of flavor to food. I started off my life with mashed potatoes adding a bit of mayonase to it instead of all that butter and cream, because it gives it a nice tangy tast not so much that you'd actually notice it, but enough to make people say, "Mmm". Over time I have experimented with many diffrent add ins and have numerous amounts of complements on my mashed potatoes. I can also suggest to you to season the water when it comes up to a boil, so the seasonings get cooked into your potatoes, I know you weren't asking that, but when people ask "whats your secreat?" that is it, that and trial and error. I've only made one batch of bad potatoes, but that was because I added too much garlic and I'll admit those were bad. If you want you can take a bit out of the whole batch and just add a drop of the vinegar you choose to it, and see how you like that before adding it to the whole batch.

I know it goes in potato salad for that tart flavor (picle relish, mustard, and miracle whip all have vinegar) some people just add vinegar instead of mayo. Just make your normal yummy mashed taters, take about a cup and add a couple drops of vinegar just to see, if you like it maybe next time you can tweak the potatoes with a little vinegar.

Yes, and they taste good with vinegar. But follow recipe thoroughly when adding ,so they do not come out too tart.
