I've come to the conclusion that these statements say much more about the speaker than about the other person or God. A person of true faith wouldn't be trying to sell "fire insurance."

I serve the Lord with all my heart. The day that I got saved a change was made in me, I put off the old man and put on the new. I was a nice person before this, but now doing things for other people is not just for them but to be able to serve my Lord also. It is much sweeter now. I hope that no one is putting on an act just to be on the good side. Being good will not get you into Heaven. If you are truly saved then it will be your desire to do good to others.

By saying "I wonder if I'll get an honest answer" you are telling me that any answer that does not fit in to your stereotypical view of Christians would be immediately dismissed as lying.
Not exactly fair, is it?
Am I just covering my basis? Absolutely not. It is a personal relationship for me.
Now, as to why the people you know say things like that? Obviously they are trying to get out there and witness to people but they are not good at it, and instead of just being themselves and standing up for what they believe and talking to you like a normal person, they are parroting catchy little chritianese phrases hoping you will be impressed.
you cannot throw a phrase like "if I'm wrong about God...." out to a non believer like it's a piece of candy without understanding not only what you are saying but understanding the implications of saying it poorly.

The thing is if they are doing it just for reward i wonder if they've stopped to think that this god would know its insincere, and they wouldn't get into this heaven anyway. I'm talking as an atheist though so looking at it from outside. Going on how this god is supposed to be,and the heaven they want to go to i think he would know a bluffer.

I want to follow God bc I love Him. He came and died for my sins, and so I want to try to follow Him and tell other ppl about Him so that they can live forever, too. That's why Jesus died for us, so we could live with Him in heaven. So, I want to follow Him so I can get there and I want to tell others so they can get there, too.
I want to be kind to ppl bc God has changed my heart. When I wasn't saved, I was fallen. Now, God's trying to work in me (when I let Him) so He can change my heart so that I'll live the way He wants me too and that will make me happier and will be a testament to others of what God can do for them.
When ppl say that at least they have a chance as compared to an atheist, who has no chance, they're just making a logical argument. Would you want to do something in which you know you're going to die, or would you rather do something in which you might die, but you at least have a chance of living. Logically, you go with the option that gives you a chance.

If you are talking about heaven and hell then you are talking about the Bible, that is where it comes from so why no Bible posts? The truth is that the fear of hell and the promise of heaven is an exceptionally strong motivation to believe and become saved. If you understand the concept of hell for eternity it would make anyone not want to be there. I don't think we need to apologize for believing to save ourselves from that. Besides the human soul craves for eternal life without pain or suffering or sickness or sin etc. They are great motivaters for us to turn to Christ for salvation.

I was about to attempt suicide. At the very last second, I told God I didn't want to die. He saved my life. By all human reasons, I should be dead.
There was no priest there, no pastor, no Bible on my car seat, no joseph smith, no mo mohammed.
Only Jesus and I. I prayed I was sorry for my sins. He saved my physically and spiritually.
So, am I just believing in God, so I won't go to Hell? No way. God saved my life, and now I am responsible for raising 2 little boys on my own, and I won't fail God.

I've definately heard this before... even in church. Personally, I believe in God and its due to my personal conviction that He's real.
It seems that you've been exposed to Christianity and so it's up to you to accept or reject it. I would take what others say with a grain of salt, I would not suggest blindly following a faith, and try to define your own convictions by experiencing God.
Best wishes to you on this journey :)

I do what I do, because it serves me. Don't have a god to believe in, and you can't effectively serve two masters. Serving God, would be sacrificing me. If I believed in a god, he/she certainly wouldn't want me sacrificing myself, after all he/she created me.
So being nice serves me, that is the only reason to really do it. Other people are looking for rewards in heaven and that is why they aren't nice, cause they really don't believe that junk.

there are many ways to get to where we are going. the Christian Belief System people generally think they know what is best for everyone else. they have a tendency to forget there are many ways to get to the same destination. we can walk, ride a bike, a motorcycle, take a bus, a train, an airplane, etc. yet each will get one to the same destination. GOD is to big to be in just in one place.
