I have been wanting one of these cuties and been reading a lot about them lately. But I've noticed that some have up ears, while others have down ears and some have fluffier faces, while other's look as if they're missing a chin. I want a fluffy "fu fu" with up ears. Is it all in the grooming, or are they're just different ones?

one is a yorkshire terrior (ears up) the other is a silky terrior (ears down) The Silky is larger, usually the yorkies ears are cropped shortly after birth to achieve the stand up look. Some breeders leave them down. But trimming the hair has nothing to do with whether they stand up or not. That's just an old wives tale. I'm a groomer for 20 years, and I always get a kick out of people thinking that keeping the hair around the ears trimmed will keep the ears standing up. It is a common misconception. Tea-cup yorkies usually always have the ears standing up. Again, it's all a matter of the breeding.

Not all purebred dogs are the same. You get good examples of the breed from reputable breeders, then you get really poor examples from back yard breeders who mate their dogs regardless of the fact that they barely conform to the breed standard. They do this to make money. If you want a good example of any breed then you go to a proper breeder, prefereably who shows, and you pay a fair price. Or you do no research and respond to whomever is advertising the cheapest puppies.
To learn about Yorkshire terrier breed standards, go to the kennel club website .
I want to add that you may see adverts for 'toy' or 'teacup' yorkies. There is no such thing. There is simply yorkshire terrier and the breed standard states that they should weigh up to 5lbs. The backyard breeders of massive oversized dogs, started to call their normal ones by these names in order to make out they are something special and charge more money for them.

Cut the hair around their ears and tape them up with masking tape (Do not worry it does not hurt the dog if taped right.) My mom researched online and found info about taping the ears correctly. It is easier to do it while they are pups because adults hate it. The tape is left on for about 2-3 days and repeated if neccessary but there ears must be able to breath. I hope this answers your question.

Trim the ear hair and the ears will usually stand up...so I've heard and I've always had yorkies.

Maybe it's genetics!! Just like you look different from your friends. Same species, different parents. It's all in the genes.
